There are terms that newbies need to learn from Steemit, and how things works including the value of their upvotes. Some members are still wondering why they have lots of upvotes, yet the amount is very low compared to other members who's post earned a huge amount even with few upvotes.

The value of upvote depends on Steem Power. If you are going to open the website tool steemd.com/@username (change the word username with your personal username), you can see SP, which is Steem Power.

Remember, the higher your Steem Power is, the higher value your every upvote is.

So how can you earn Steem Power?

Author Rewards and Curation Rewards

As you can see in this screenshot photo, there is Author Rewards, and there is Curation Rewards. You can earn Steem Power from both. That will appear once your post reached 7 days from posting. 

With Author Rewards, portion of it goes to Steem Power. You can see how much once you redeem your rewards as you can see at the screenshot below.

How can you earn from Curation Rewards? 
From your post, if you upvoted it, the amount of curation rewards will be divided between you and your upvoters and commenters, so interaction is also important.

If you go back to your steemd.com account, drag down, and you might have received curation rewards. How? As mentioned above, curation rewards goes to the author who upvoted his/her post, other upvoters, and commenters. So if you have upvoted and commented on posts by other members, you will earn curation rewards from them.
