I disagree that abortion is "just health care." Scientifically speaking, conception writes a new genetic code for a new human being. This is undeniable. Onc ecell division begins, you cannot avoid the fact that a new human life has begun. Every other measure, including the Texas detectable heartbeat provision or birth, is arbitrary. Culturally, we have swung from prudishness to casual irresponsibility when it comes to sex. I don't deny that rape can result in pregnancy, but this is rare in comparison to people who want to just ignore the natural consequences of their actions. It is indicative of a far deeper rot in our society. I don't buy the accusation of pervasive "rape culture", but we do need to hold men more responsible for their philandering. However, we also have a system that absolutely destroys .en for failure to meet State mandated child support. It's a mess. Murdering an innocent life and calling it "health care" is not a real solution, though. Some want to make an analogy to eviction of a tenant, but we are seeing a strange overlap between "abortion is a right" and "housing is a right," so in that case, we see many ignoring major cognitive dissonance. Another example is, "no one should be forced to support another life against their will, but pay taxes to fund my pet government programs like welfare and health care." This doesn't really show any philosophical consistency, just an effort to dodge responsibility. A slightly better argument for evictionism is that of bodily self-ownership and the pregnancy as trespass, but the u is not the one who acted. It's less like an unwanted stowaway crept aboard a ship and more like the ship's crew shanghaied someone only to decide to throw them overboard later. Even in the first case, we would consider throwing someone overboard to be murder. In the latter, though, we see culpability for the entire situation much more clearly. I can see arguments to be made for the morning-after pill. Besides, this is a way people can immediately take responsibility to preemptively address the possible consequences of their actions. Texas law still offers a significant window for people to discover what happened. I don't like the arbitrary cutoff or enforcement either, but let's not pretend casual murder of less-developed life is a way out of responsibility.

You're putting the cart before the horse. Without bodily autonomy there is no such thing as freedom. Abortion, contraception, the only difference between the two is the matter of timing. Quibbling about that timing seems suspiciously like an excuse for using forcing birth as another means of controlling women. Not health care? If a medical procedure, performed by medical professionals, who at various points and places have been required to have admitting privileges at nearby hospitals, isn't health care then how do you define health care? To lament *'ignoring the natural consequences of their actions'* and then complain of a system that attempts to prevent men from doing exactly that sounds suspiciously like cognitive dissonance. From personal experience I know that system is far from perfect but until you have something better... Regardless of how you term it, women get raped or sexually assaulted with outrageous frequency. I don't expect you to simply take my word for it but go wander around a busy gay bar for a bit and you might get a better appreciation for what women are subjected to on a daily basis. Does the means by which Texas when about going after abortion not alarm you? Just the deputizing and incentivizing the entire state to snitch on their neighbors sounds eerily like NKVD/Gestapo/Stasi tactics. Bets on how long it takes before that blueprint gets used for other sorts of oppression?

Involintary euthanasia, eugenics sterilization programs, and even vivisection could all be handwaved away as "medical procedures." Arguments for "bodily autonomy" ignore the body being destroyed. Again, see my analogy of the stowaway versus the shanghaied passenger and make a property rights argument for throwing the latter overboard. Ther is a significant difference between contraception and abortion. Only one occurs after conception. This argument is as empty as saying male masturbation equals abortion. The world we live in is a mess, but we can't fix that mess by mrginalizing and disregarding the unborn just because we decide their level of development is unworthy of protection.
