Governments have been known to make alot of mistakes when it comes to dealing with the environment.  Arbitrary decisions compound the issue. 
The Australian Government, has felt itself so smart, that it does the most damage.

You can look at the Cane Toad disaster.  There's also the attempts to eradicate rabbits and so the failures go.

I found it (disgusting) frustrating when the Government will force upon people a range of actions that are against the moral, and ethical, beliefs of a person.

To kill healthy insects is wrong.  I understand that they are trying to "do the right thing.  
However, making arbitrary rules, historically, always leads to disaster.  It drowns out rational, contemplative debate.  
It punishes those who offer alternative solutions.
In this instance, the cruelty to the insect, is possible by using other techniques and approaches.

The secrecy in keeping those affected in the dark.  Not answering questions.  Even more concerning is the inability to address concerns.  Concerns, that surely should have been contempated in undertaking such a broad spectrum program that will affect the bee hives.  
It will also affect the pollination of plants over large tracts of land.  
This can possibly affect the food supply chain for other animal and our own food industies.
