How can I get Bright Vivid colors on my Sony that I was used to with Nikon?
Everything about the new Sony A7r4 is amazing... except the color. And that's perhaps because of how I see the world and my brand of color and what I think is real color in my own eyes has been impacted by 12-15 years of Nikon. I love bright strong blues and greens and I really appreciate consistent smooth skin tons... the type that represent the skin I remember that person actually having.

And I never had to mess with crazy settings with my old cameras. When i imported the images with my preset everything was set... and basically all I ever did to an image was Dodge and Burn and maybe sharpen or smooth some skin. I'm not an artsy photographer... I consider myself a documentive photographer I just wanna capture life as I see it... which I realize is a more vivid and bright way than many others may see it. I don't go into my editing thinking about how to change things up... I go into there trying to just make it look like I remember things... so the idea of messing around with all sorts of settings bothers me but I was willing to do it to switch to this awesome new camera.

## MY CHALLENGE
This is a challenge... I know that it may never be possible to get EXACTLY what i was used to for 12-15 years with Nikon. But i also know there's a lot that can be done
- HSL sliders
- Custom picture profiles on camera raw
- Minutely edited profiles with Adobe DNG profile editor
- Even a 24 color calibration card
- Gamma options in sony picture profiles

# LOST SOUL
I just don't know where to go.

At first I had so much angst when i got the camera, I knew the colors of Sony would be different but that I could overcome things by learning how to get really involved in color profiles.
I felt like a week ago I was starting to get a hang of things.
But then this last week I started to hate the experience again... and not sure what setting it was I may have changed OR what lighting situation made colors so frustrating again.

To be clear my past experiences with Canon weren't great either.

If I remember correctly, Nikon uses a sensor that slightly prefers green (or also red like Canon), Canon favors red, and Sony Magenta. That's why the change is undeniable. I had the same thing when I switched from my Canon to Sony.

This is what you can do, to hopefully fix it to your own liking.
Calibrate the white balance in Camera.
- Navigate and select any White Balance mode you'd like to use (Kelvin for example)
- Press the "Right Arrow" twice
- You'll enter an RGB color palette
- Play around and see what works best for you

Some other ways to change/take control over your color space;
- switch to a different colorspace; sRGB / AdobeRGB? (inside the camera)
- Using a Color Passport Checker (X-Rite Colorchecker (the official one), it's about 99eur, works like a charm)
- creating your own color-profile to work with? (in photoshop/export to lightroom/camera RAW)
- Last resort; Try out editing your RAW's in Capture One with the Sony extension.

Hope this helped :)

ps; damn that firework shot at 3:33 in the thumbs, awesome!

Thanks for taking time to answer. I sent a tip.
Amazon just delivered my 24 color grid checker I'm gonna play with right now. I need to have a friend come and pose with it so i can get skin color in there as well.

I'll be trying different gammas on sony. And switching from adobergb to srgb
I'll me making some of my own color profiles and playing in dng profile editor as well as camera raw profile creator.

What do you mean "sony extension"?
I notice capture 1 has only 1 color profile for each sony camera.

Nice, hopefully, it helped! Have you tried playing with the RGB settings in the camera itself (you can easily warm things up)? That option worked the best for me. AdobeRGB/sRGB is mostly for print (and I think it only works for JPG and not RAW if I'm not mistaken).

Capture One is for Phase One DSLR's, but they have an extension for Sony (the one you mentioned I think :D).
