There’s nothing like a state fair, especially one that pulls out all the stops like this one. We attended two days ago, and I realized it would make a great Market Friday post. Fortunately @dswigle, the fabulous proprietor of this community, doesn’t seem to mind that some of us don’t get around to posting until Saturday!    One of our first stops when we arrived was the cheese curd taco truck. I know — it may not sound that great, but people had been posting about these tacos and recommending them in local media, so when we found it not far inside the entrance — and we were super hungry — we decided to look no further.    I should also mention that we also wasted no time buying a beer, as there was a craft beer place right inside the entrance too. And in case you’re wondering, cheese curd tacos go very well with cold beer.    We immediately lamented that we don’t have larger stomachs. There is so much great food at the Minnesota state fair! Some people go just for that aspect of the experience. My husband and I, however, never make food the focus or we would go into a coma. Here are a few pictures of the food kiosks, just to give you an idea of the options.     There is a ton to do at the fair. You can buy tickets to one of the big concerts, like Pitbull, or there are rock and country music venues all throughout the fairgrounds that you can go to for free.  There are also pavilions through the grounds with all kinds of special exhibits. There are agriculture pavilions, for example, where you can go see horses, cows, goats, chicks, and so on, and even a whole pavilion just for newborn animals, which is always a hit with kids. In the next few pictures I’ll share some of the arts and crafts and fine art exhibits we visited. It was really fun to see which things won blue ribbons.                We also went into a bakery pavilion. There’s nothing to buy or eat there, but you can see dozens and dozens and *dozens* of little cakes, pasties and cookies on display by people who entered them in competitions.     In addition to some art and baking exhibits, we also visited an eco-sustainability exhibit and got to check out some e-bikes which we are really interested in. Also my husband had to have a look at the electric lawn mowers even though he already has one.   Of course there are plenty of rides. We are not really into the tilt-a-whirl types of things, but we did a silly log ride and an even sillier haunted castle.         I always love the look of a Ferris wheel, especially at night. And at the fair it makes a great landmark! Even though the fair is on a nice square grid of streets, it’s very easy to get turned around.    We were still full after eating a small second course off a tiny jerk chicken, but I didn’t want to miss out on dessert at the fair, so I bought a “key lime pure on a stick” to share. Wow was that good. It was frozen and coated in white chocolate.   There are even some markets at the fair with leather goods, imports, and all kinds of souvenirs. That was fun!!! I love the annual State Fairs! We actually have three in close proximity. The West Virginia, Virginia, and Maryland ones. We are so spoiled! How nice that they take good care of you as soon as you walk in the gate! Score! Can you believe all the time I have spent in the Northern Tier and I have never had a cheese curd anything? No lie! The food there is amazing. What the heck is a pickle pizza or do I really want to know? You and me both in a food coma. 🤣 The arts and crafts are beautiful. I love quilting and crochet. I sew but, nothing fancy. It is just fun to do things like that when I have time. I made a quilt out of the fabric of my mom's dresses. I actually made three of them, one for each of my sisters and I am making three for my kids for Christmas this year. I have been working on them all year. and sometimes it is hard to hide. :) I go on the silly rides too. You are at a Fair!!!! You are supposed to. The Ferris Wheel is a given, I must ride one and be high up in the sky! Oh, for real!!! I want a piece of that key lime pie on a stick!!! Thank you!!! I love going out with you, you cutie patootie! Great shots! This week is a big weekend here in the US! This weekend is Labor Day. The calendar calls for the end of summer and we will be closing it out with a large family picnic. While I have read through all the #MarketFriday posts, most twice, just because I really enjoy most of the posts. I also did a family get together for Labor Day. My husband and I took the "kids" (who are all 21 and over now) to the Wisconsin Dells over the weekend. Spoiler alert. Ha ha. You'll be reading about it this Friday. That's really cool about the quilts you made. They are now family heirlooms.
