When I was in high school, there were two girls that I was interested in.

They were both interested in me as well.

One of them was a very pretty Mexican girl named Julie.

The other was a rather average looking redhead named Linda.

These girls would pick me up on summer days when we had nothing important to do,   and we would all go over to Linda's house and relax.

There was a really interesting difference between the two girls.

Julie was a real knockout,  and she was a lot of fun to be around.

Linda drove an expensive sports car and had a house that had pretty much everything in it that you could possibly imagine.

One of the interesting things that Linda had at her house was a little pet monkey.

This little monkey was really cute but it was also kind of gross because it would sometimes throw poop around and it even wore a little diaper.

 I will admit that I was interested in Julie because she was so attractive and because we really got along well together.

I wasn't really that interested in Linda,  but at the same time I kind of felt obligated to  spend a lot of time with her,  if only for the fact that we tended to spend our days at her house and I didn't want to feel like I was using her.

The strange thing is that she would often pick me up wherever I was and tried to spend all of her time with me.

She would often try to get close to me in ways that made me really uncomfortable.

Kissing me on the cheek,  and sometimes even leaning in to kiss me on the mouth when we would simply go somewhere like to a fast food place or to the mall.

She always volunteered to take me anywhere and I think it was simply because she wanted to spend as much time with me as she could.

I suppose I could have said no,  but at the same time I couldn't think of a reason to.

It was rather interesting because Julie, Linda,  and I were sort of like three best friends that spend a lot of time together.

It wasn't that we spent all of our High school time together either.  All of this took place during about a one year period of time.

When it all ended we stopped being friends,  all three of us.

It wasn't a big crash or anything like that.  It was just that one day we all decided it was too much for the three of us to handle.

I wanted Julie. Julie was on the fence about it.   Linda wanted me.  We all wanted to hang out at Linda's place.  We all wanted to drive around in Linda's car.  Nobody wanted to actually hurt the other person's feelings.

I guess life is kind of like that.

It's dramatic but as long as it's fun and interesting,  and nobody gets hurt,  then it's good to maintain as many relationships as you can.

The problem is that somebody always gets hurt even when it's not on purpose.

Do I miss hanging out with those girls?

Sure.

 I miss a lot of things about the high school though.

 I'm older now and life is more about responsibilities than it used to be.

I don't think Julie or  Linda ever think about me anymore.

There's no reason for them to.

I think about them though. The three of us hanging out in the back room of Linda's house,  listening to Stone Temple Pilots and playing with her little monkey.

I would be nice to go back in time and spend the day with them again.

Unfortunately time keeps marching on and those memories get left behind.
