Something interesting happened today at my restaurant.

 Sundays are often busy. Today was particularly so based on the fact that we had a 100 top reservation in the main dining room.

The reservation was set for 2:00,  and we knew we weren't going to be able to seat that room passed around 11:30  unless we could be absolutely certain that the guests we sat would be done by 2:00.

Everything was going according to plan. The room was cordoned off and there was no evidence that things were going to go awry.

A group of four tourists in vacation colored shirts came in to eat lunch at just before 1:00.  They were very insistent about sitting in the main dining room.

The manager came over to have a talk with them.

_"That room is reserved for a very large party.   It is for that reason that we absolutely cannot seat that room because we have no guarantee that whoever we seat there will be done by the time the party arrives at 2:00."_

The group of four nodded and the lead man made his case.

_"That gives us an entire hour. We just want to grab a quick bite and be on our way we will definitely be out of here by 2:00."_

My manager gave in because there was no reason not to trust the easy going older gentleman.    The group sat down in the center of the main dining hall.   A server was sent to take their order right away so that they could be in and out before the party arrived.

The large party showed up about 1:45, and started setting up the room with presents,  cakes,  and other goodies.

My manager checked with the group of four to see if they were just about ready to leave.

_"What are you talking about?"_  the previously relaxed older gentleman exclaimed at the top of his voice. _"Do we look ready?"_ 

Everyone was shocked.

_"Well,  we agreed that you would be out of here by 2:00 because this room is reserved for a large party. I can switch you over to another table not in the main dining room if you like."_ my manager argued.

The lead man from the relaxed seeming vacation group blew his top at this.

_"We will leave when we are good and ready. We were seated in this room and this is the room we are eating in. When we're done eating,  that is when we will be on our way and not before."_

The group of 100 people went ahead and sat down all around this group of four people. Every single table was full of presents, cakes,  gifts,  and decorations with the exception of the one tiny table that had four vacationing tourists seated at it.

They ordered beer after beer, margarita after margarita, and appetizer after appetizer.... the whole time glaring at our manager and staff as if to say  _"Go ahead and try to kick me out."_

The whole thing was incredibly unusual.

Even though they had previously stated that they would be out by 2:00 the party of four stayed until 4:00 in the afternoon.   They were at a restaurant for more than three hours.

 An entire incredibly loud celebration went on all around them. It was super strange because these people were very out of place during this celebration.

Nevertheless, they sat there and endured the ordeal, perhaps trying to show us how much they _didn't have to do what we said._

Spite.

Spite without reason.


 I'm not sure why they agreed to leave at 2:00 in the first place. They were very friendly at the beginning,  and we were really doing them a favor by allowing them to sit in the room even though we had cordoned it off for a large party.

 I guess it just goes to show that no good deed goes unpunished.

 I think there are more people on this Earth that don't know how to treat each other correctly than most of us give credit for. These people had no rhyme or reason for their actions....they just wanted to be spiteful jerks.

 I can tell you one thing for certain. If we see them again,  they won't be staying here for long. 

We certainly won't be doing them any more favors....that's for sure.
