I am the Rainmaker
Live in the desert
Pitied, Derided, Shunned
None believes these days gone by
The talent professed to
To call the rain from the sky
To Bless the land a new
It really is a blessing
And most want sunny days
Yes, they want that most
The entire dry host
But without it
We all die
And as soon as I stop
I begin to hear it
Lost it, why oh why
It is on those days and I like sun
Too, to swim, play, have fun
And so one wants
Waits ever patient
For tears to fall from the sky
The desert is dry
It sucks out life
The unwary falter fast
But with the faith once known everywhere
Life with it ever lasts
It is a strange thing a puddle
But stranger is the drop
And so I begin
Some hearts to win
That the call is merely a thought
For me it is bright
For me it is sunny
And when I succeed so very funny
An art not a science I do
If it doesn't fall
I join all the rest
That failed in their calls blue
Sometimes I use the dance
From Apaches ancient and old
To step in a circle
To praise the great spirit
Around and around we go
The tribe it spins in wheels
Great spokes that ebb and flow
The drums beat out the cadence
Step back to and fro
We sing when we do it
Call out the words as one
Reach out to the spirit
And hope the day is won.
Calling rain is tough
Sometimes lightening strikes
And one must ask the spirit
In anger do not ignite
Oh blessed rain I call thee
And ways are simple and true
Saints Francis the water spirit
And Kateri Tekakwitha too
John Nepomucene
The sign of the cross
The words uttered each of directions
It is all the same from land to land
In days gone far from reflection
Hosanna, save us
Our throats are parched
The dust makes our tongues swell
We are covered with sores because we can't wash
Our lives are a living hell
Oh please you who are up there
Look down on us in woe
End our mortal trials
Help us row in boats
There are so many ways
Scattered here and there
In the desert its still useful
That's why I use it there
These ten years I take the rod of iron
Draw upon the ground
Make the fish and the water it swims
In lines seen high above
The east wind blows here
The land is blessed
And soon the clouds do form
Across the awnings
Waves in the gutters
Downspouts a river flows
And when they say I am filled with madness
We tilt our glasses full
And down our throats the water quenches
Both heart, mind, body, and soul
Just like thee
One used to think
Water is something taken for granted
One day I found
From the work of prayer,
Fasting, and praise
Is the only way it is granted
One thing is true one never knew
That the most thankful are those without wells
And the animals surround
Play, jump, fly, and bound
In joy when rain washes the desert
Clouds on the mountains
Mists on the hillsides
Fogs, puddles, and sleet
They do not care like the people do
Water is something to drink
Another blessing
It took me days
lots scraping, sessions, and prays
Bow down to the earth and beg for mercy
Is it the end of days?
If one calls the rain and it comes

And if the rainbow follows
Perhaps the wonders
That always happen
Were acts of faith and magic
That somewhere in the desert
Lost sat a sage who wondered
Without a cup of water
The ground I will be under
Perhaps I'll lay the ravens pick
A jogging path for worms
But, will that happen
When I call
And above my voice is heard?
Draw the fish
Beat the drum
Dance the steps of life
Each time the drum is beaten
Like hearts in love with life

Drops on the glass
A moment's repast
A contented, successful sigh
The Rainmaker does what he can
When he can
How he can
He doesn't know why
And why?
It's a desire of desert life
Relax just a bit
To hope for tomorrow
To watch water fall from the sky
