<h2>Also a little different</h2>
I first saw this back in high school I think, one of the teachers put it on just before the end of the school year. This was quite a while ago now, and I think I have only seen it once since then, also a fair while ago. I will however do my best to remember the story line as it is a fairly powerful film.

I believe it was set in the mid 1960's where criminal Randle McMurphy is transferred to a mental institution, even though he is not suffering from any real form of mental illness. He just wants to have an easy period of incarceration, who can this not quite working out as planned?

After he is transferred he encounters the head nurse whom runs the ward in a fairly strict manner, and must have order. Randle however is almost the complete opposite, a free spirit. The stage is now set for the two of them to do battle. Randle does what he can to ensure that there is disorder. He manages to steal a bus and escape with several patients in order to go on a fishing trip. This of course goes down well with the head nurse.

It soon becomes evident that his sentence could very well be extended, and extended as it only requires him to be considered mentally ill and hence unfit for society. This cause him to enlist the aid of one of the other patients "Chief", an American Indian in order to escape. They are ultimately unsuccessful, and get sent to the "shock shop" where they receive electroshock therapy. This only serves for them to become more determined to escape again.

The two of them decide to throw a Christmas party on the ward after the staff have left for the night. As with any party there is always the morning after. The head nurse arrives at work the next day to find the ward in disarray and most of the patients passed out drunk.

This plus a few other things that occurred during the party causes Randle to "disappear" for a few days. Some of the patients think he has escaped, but this is not the case. He is returned to the ward with lobotomy scars on his forehead. The Chief smothers his friend with a pillow, and then proceeds to escape.

This movie showed how good Jack Nicholson could be, and a lot of actors could still learn a lot from his performance. Unlike your traditional Hollywood movie, not everyone gets a happy ending. This is one of those films you should see at least once as it does cover a few topics about society and fitting in.
