Recently I added an entrance reducer to my bee hive. I noticed a few ants within the hive and I wanted to keep the colony safe from any potential robbery. A few weeks later I noticed this phenomenon happening outside of the hive. The honey bees were flapping their wings a super high speeds to fan the entrance of the colony in an attempt to stay cool on a hot summer day. After this, I decided to use a smaller entrance reducer with a larger entrance and more airflow.

They are incredible creatures aren't they? Ants fascinate me too. The hive mind is such an enigma. I'd like to keep some bees. I kind of feel they need all the help they can get but my worry is that I lack time. Is there a lot of upkeep with beekeeping? I have kept rescued chickens but you can't go away and leave them for more than one night really.
