It was an interesting day, somewhat optimistic. It began with my wife not feeling well, so she took the day off from work. Which meant the dogs had company all day! I went in to work and taught my two classes. Music history we talked about Sacred music in the Enlightenment and how Mozart's Requiem is so different than the music that was being composed for the church at that time. In Music Appreciation, we defined "song" and listened to Schubert's Erlkonig and Schumann's Seit ich ihn Gesehen. I went after a student who had their phone out, and apologized afterwards. She seemed fine with it and it was a pleasant conversation, especially because I felt this student despised me from the way she looks at me during class. That made me feel better. I practice piano for a bit, then taught a private piano lesson to an older early intermediate student. Afterwards, I got an hour and a half with of organ practice in before choir. Tonight is a nice night as I got to stay home rather than run off to an event tonight. It is caucusing night in Iowa. Best to stay home.

On the organ, I worked on BWV 618 and learned most of 619. I also ran through BWV 616 and 617 to keep them in my fingers for a recital in two weeks. Still gathering rep for it, but it is all pieces I have played for a while. I also worked on the fugue of BWV 536--trying to speed it up, line by line (first line that includes pedal today made it to 85=qn).

On the piano, I spent most of my time trying to make sure the third movement of Beethoven's Op. 101 was starting to be memorized. I also brought back Chopin's Op. 10 No. 4.
