Kitchen Mysteries (plus another dish to eat)

So, this morning, I needed to refill my glass Sugar decanter. I only use white granulated sugar in my coffee, 2 tsps per cup, 2 cups per morning. So I end up having to refill that thing about once a week.
In my kitchen, since I don't have over counter cabinets, and no proper pantry, I've been storing dry comestibles in this drawer

When I opened the drawer to get the remains of the bag in the top picture, as you can see, the bottom was wet.
As was the drawer underneath it, and the NEW bag as well.

There was moisture under the bags of dried beans in that drawer too.

When I dumped the remaining sugar out, of course it was hard as rock on the bottom. Not good for pouring out of the decanter

What I could crush/break up in my hand, was DAMP, so I put it in that white plastic dish and nuked it for about 15 sec. I didn't want to chance the sugar actually melting.
What I COULDN'T crush in my hand, I put in my trusty granite mortar and pestle.
Still puzzled by all this though.
The only thing I can figure is that in some late night munchy attack, I spilled something on the counter above that drawer, with the drawer open, and didn't notice that it was spilling over the edge of the counter top.
Oh well.

I've had this in the fridge for about 4 days; I didn't want to freeze it because I could see a whole onion through the plastic.
When I opened it all a little while ago, all the veggies were slick, the ONE LITTLE PIECE of celery was mushy, that and the outer layers of the onion were tossed.

Everything else, including the meat was washed under clean running water.

The "Distructions" for using a slow cooker, the preferred method, was to cook it on low for 8-10 hrs.
I had intended to start this thing when I got up this morning, but the _**Kitchen Mystery**_ distracted me.
The alternative was to cook it on HIGH for 4-6 hrs, so that is what I'm doing.
Of course I added the fresh portabella 'shrooms, and some dried onion flakes.
Also, some sweet pickled Jalapeno rings, a dash each of Soy, Balsamic Vinegar, and Worcestershire sauce.
So now to wait for Supper Time!

I get plenty of those kitchen mysteries too. However, I have a history of sleepwalking, so I immediately just brush them off as that. 

Come to think of it, all kitchen mysteries I just say "oh I've slept walked". I wonder how many of my past room mates have gotten away with stealing my food and made it a habit when I continually blamed it on myself. 

Then again, I wonder how many times I ate or destroyed said room mates food when I was actually sleepwalking. I guess it balances out. I do have a habit of just taking things out of the fridge and throwing them in the trash or sink. A lot of weird sleepwalking stories. 

This is why I don't trust "kits". Unless they are made with the direct intent to NOT do so, most seem to combine ingredients that will spoil in different stages. Almost every time I've bought any sort of kit at least one thing is bad and it kind of throws off the entire rest of the kit that would otherwise still be good. 

I hope you figure out your kitchen mystery!! That's a bizarre one. I'm guessing the cabinet is not near any water pipes? I assumed you already considered that haha

That meal looks delicious, glad you were able to save that sugar!  One investment our family has been making is a more substantial pantry and practice using the ingredients in our pantry.

I have plans, at the moment as you come into my "mud room" (the side door next to the kitchen) I have a set of shelves that are completely covered in tools etc.
When I can get to it, and make my garage/stable into a workshop, then those shelves will be my pantry.
Right now, I have a set of "Lazy Susan" shelves under the corner of the kitchen cabinets next to the stove.
That, and the drawer are the only places I can conveniently store canned food, or dry staples.
Get those tools out of the way, and I'll be able to keep a more substantial store of canned food.
I average running to the Grocery store 3 x's per week, always for some small thing.
Thanks @ironshield. I ate one installment from the roast a little while ago.
