**Introduction**
Recently my footballer friend had a knee injury, and he want able to apply pressure on his right leg. Despite going through various tests and making ECG reports available to many doctors, none of them were able to identify what the issue was. It was not until he consulted a lot of doctors, that they could identify it was an uncommon case of an ACL tear, which is a very common injury to football players. He wasted a lot of money as consultation fee for various doctors, for such a common injury. Only if the initial doctor had some database of information that he could refer to, to try and find the symptoms to his actual injury.
**The Problem**
PeerAtlas is tackling the most unethical paywall that is existing in the world – the paywall of medical information. Medical information should be made available free, and the latest advancements in the medical industry, including new devices, researches, findings and lab reports is not available to all doctors around the world. Even if it is available, it comes with a hefty price tags which is not affordable by all doctors.
**The PeerAtlas Platform**
PeerAtlas was developed with an aim of making a peer reviewed, open source medical encyclopedia, by exploiting the capabilities of the neo blockchain. Through PeerAtlas, doctors can access a huge database of medical information, which is updated regularly in the form of electronic patient records and live patient treatments, reinforced by a sophisticated artificial intelligence algorithm to make the collection and availability of these information effective.
**Why the NEO Blockchain**
Well we have seen a lot of projects being developed on Ethereum, but PeerAtlas has opted for NEO. This is because NEO has built in digital identification mechanisms, and has an improvement on the Proof of Work and Proof of Stake mechanisms, named the [Delegated Byzantine Fault Tolerance](https://themerkle.com/what-is-delegated-byzantine-fault-tolerance/) (dBFT). Because of dBFT, the transactions are much faster than the Ethereum platform.
**Token details**
The native token for the PeerAtlas platform is the ATLAS token which is a NEP-5 standard coin in the neo blockchain. These tokens are awarded to the people who contribute medical articles and developments to the algorithms to enhance the usability and effectiveness of the platform. A medical professional who uses the platform will send ATLAS to the PeerAtlas platform, who in turn will grant them continuous medical education (CME) credits in return. The CME credits are given in corporation with the medical associations present in the country in which the professional is currently practicing in.
**Conclusion**
The PeerAtlas platform is a very innovative idea, with such potential that can change the entire structure of medical care, improve capabilities of the healthcare professionals, and provide patients with world class healthcare. Not only healthcare, this platform can also benefit ongoing medical research because now they have access to live developments in the field of medicine! A suggestion would be, to incorporate personal medical data, too in the platform, so that each doctor can suggest personalized medical care by looking at the patients' medical history.
