Greetings, for a long time we've always seen Jack O' Lanter in ways ranging from an imp in the form of a child as in the iconic movie Trick 'r Treat, or as legend dictates, a man in his 40s to 50s with a lantern made from a pumpkin.  


But none of the many interpretations on film fascinate me more than that of Jack Skellington. This interpretation of the legend by Tim Burton is another level compared to all the others, while it is not the most attached nor is it the most vivid, it is by far the most creative of all.

> Saludos, durante mucho tiempo siempre hemos visto a Jack O' Lanter de maneras que van desde un diablillo en forma de niño como en la iconica película Trick 'r Treat, o como dictamina la leyenda, un hombre de 40 a 50 años con una linterna hecha a partir de una calabaza.  


> Pero ninguna de las múltiples interpretaciones en el cine me fascina mas que la de Jack Skellington, esta interpretación de la leyenda de parte de Tim Burton es otro nivel en comparación a todas las otras, si bien no es la mas apegada ni es la mas vivida, es por mucho la mas creativa de todas.

From the moment the character is introduced to us you notice the way they worked the setting of the Halloween town mythology, they gave us a long beat around all the minor scares before we meet the king of Halloween, they didn't just form a creative idea for Jack, they created a universe in less than a single song.  


In this carved-out universe, this character is given a more human setting where the emphasis is on the weight of his responsibilities, but the legend of Jack O' Lanter places him as an expert of deception, where's the catch in this Burtom's Jack Where's the deception?

> Desde el momento que el personaje nos es presentado se nota la forma en la que trabajaron el entorno de la mitología de Halloween town, nos dieron un largo ritmo entorno a todos los espantos menores antes de conocer al rey de Halloween, no solo formaron una idea creativa para Jack, crearon un universo en menos de una sola canción.  


> En este labrado universo, a este personaje se le da un entorno mas humano donde se hace énfasis en el peso de sus responsabilidades, pero la leyenda de Jack O' Lanter lo coloca como un experto del engaño, donde esta el truco en este Jack de Burtom ¿Donde esta el engaño?

My answer is simple, and throughout; Jack Skellington is an elaborate deception throughout the film, all the while Jack deceives both the audience and its citizens, the biggest deception is Jack's pretentious act of ignorance to Sally's feelings and his constant mistreatment of her throughout the film. Even more so when the resolution of Sally's situation. At the end of the film shows that Jack manipulated the situation in favor of that outcome, although he pretends to the audience that it is not so, it is evident when knowing the context of Sally's life, she leaves a home full of jealousy and abuse, to a disinterested lover who fills her with abandonment. Jack manages to look like a hero while mistreating his lover and planning a kidnapping, what a great deception, isn't it?

> Mi respuesta es sencilla, en todas partes; Jack Skellington es un engaño elaborado a lo largo del filme, todo el tiempo Jack engaño a tanto la audiencia como a sus ciudadanos, el mayor engaño es el pretencioso acto de ignorancia de Jack ante los sentimientos de Sally y el constante maltrato que le hace a lo largo del filme. Mas aun cuando la resolución de la situación de Sally al final de la misma muestra que Jack manipulo la situación en favor de ese desenlace, si bien finge ante la audiencia que no es así, es evidente al saber el contexto de la vida de Sally, ella sale de un hogar lleno de celo y maltrato, a un amante desinteresado y que le llena de abandono. Jack logra verse como un héroe, mientras maltrata a su amante y planifica un secuestro, que engaño tan grande ¿No?

<center> <h2> The mith and the Lie on Jack </h2></center>


Jack Skellington strikes me as the biggest king of deception of any other version, all the while selling a cavalry act that very quickly looks fake if you pay attention to his actions throughout the film. How he handles and manipulates a kidnapping behind the scenes, it's unbelievable that he planned it with his enemy's henchmen. This was a way to make the rescue of Santa Claus involve a justification to eliminate a political enemy, who proposed according to the story, that Halloween be Bug Day.

> Jack Skellington me parece el mayor rey del engaño de cualquier otra versión, todo el tiempo vendió un acto de caballería que muy rápido se ve falso si prestas atención a sus acciones a lo largo del film. El como maneja y manipula un secuestro detrás de escena, es increíble que lo planifique con los secuaces de su enemigo. Esta fue una manera de hacer que el rescate de Santa Claus involucre una justificación para eliminar a un enemigo político, que propuso según la historia, que Halloween fuera Bug Day.

The great thing about the film is that one way or another it doesn't get away with it, just as in the legend of Jack O' Lanter, in this one, Jack is condemned to roam the earth one day a year, because he tricked the devil into not being dragged to hell, but he is also not accepted into heaven for that action. Leading Jack to an uncomfortable balance between good and evil, being a soul in pain forced to do minor devilish deals or mischief at worst, being reduced to eternal deception, the devil played a trick on him like no other. 


> Lo grande del filme es que de una forma u otra no se sale con la suya, al igual que en la leyenda de Jack O' Lanter, en esta, Jack esta condenado a vagar la tierra un día al año, debido a que engaño al diablo para no ser arrastrado al infierno, pero tampoco esta aceptado en el cielo por dicha acción. Llevando a Jack a un incomodo equilibrio entre el bien y el mal, siendo un alma en pena obligado a hacer tratos diabólicos menores o travesuras en el peor de los casos, siendo reducido a un engaño eterno, el diablo le hizo una jugarreta como ninguna otra.

Definitely that even the film is a hoax, a Halloween film that communicates the spirit and tradition of said holiday, disguised as a Christmas film, is the highest level of hoax in my eyes, it is the highest compliment to the Jack O' Lanter mythos. 


> Definitivamente que hasta el filme sea un engaño, una película de Halloween que comunica el espíritu y tradición de dicha fiesta, disfrazada de filme de navidad, es el mayor nivel de engaño a mis ojos, es el mayor elogio al mito de Jack O' Lanter.

I hope my idea of comparing mythologies and developing the persona of Jack as a masterful blend by Tim Burton, is to your liking, I wait for you in the comments to talk about the beautiful film that is "The Nightmare Before Christmas", more Halloween than this film, there is not, although it is a Christmas themed.
