Hello Movies and Tv community, this is my firts post here and i hope you like it, is about female character building on cinema and my best example of it, Ellen Ripley. 


Alien's saga is full of the presence of **Xenomorfs**(Another word for alien) and their development as the evil presence of the story, they are the top predators of any kind they are able to put **eggs** on, even their creators have a fear of being destroyed by them as stated on the prequels *Prometheus*.


> Hola comunidad de Cine y Tv, este es mi primer post aquí y espero que les guste, es sobre la construcción de personajes femeninos en el cine y mi mejor ejemplo de ello, Ellen Ripley.


> La saga de Alien está llena de la presencia de **Xenomorfos**(Otra palabra para alien) y su desarrollo como la presencia maligna de la historia, son los máximos depredadores de cualquier especie en la que sean capaces de poner **huevos**, incluso sus creadores tienen miedo de ser destruidos por ellos como se ve en la saga de precuelas *Prometheus*.

But there is always a lingering question. What are the Xenomorphs? What do they represent? Fear? Darkness? Evil?
They represent US, humankind, their creators both the writer (Dan O'Bannon) and the artist(H.R. Giger) who created him to represent ***rape***. An interspecies rape to be more precise, the creation of the entity know as Xenomorfs(Nameless aliens at the time) are a full representation of the evilest act **humanity** can do. 


This evil is one of the most outrageous acts a human can do because it hurts the very **soul** of the one who is a victim of it, and its that kind of wound that it truly never *heals*, just as the death of a son or parents, those kinds of **wounds** do not heal on time, you just learn to **live** with them.


> Pero siempre hay una pregunta persistente. ¿Qué son los Xenomorfos? ¿Qué representan? ¿El miedo? ¿La oscuridad? ¿El mal?
Representan a la humanidad, a nosotros, sus creadores tanto el escritor (Dan O'Bannon) como el artista (H.R. Giger) lo crearon para representar la ***violación***. Una violación entre especies para ser más precisos, la creación de la entidad conocida como Xenomorfos(Alienígenas sin nombre en ese momento) son una representación completa del acto más malvado que la **humanidad** puede hacer. 


> Esta acto malvado es uno de los actos más atroces que un humano puede hacer puesto hiere el **alma** de quien es víctima de el, y es ese tipo de herida que realmente nunca *cura*, al igual que la muerte de un hijo, o de los padres, ese tipo de **heridas** no se curan con el tiempo, sólo se aprende a **vivir** con ellas.

Originally the main character of this saga was supposed to be Male, but director Ridley Scott decided to change it to female and make an example of a **fighter** out of it, he created along with the writer's Dan O'Bannon and Ronald Shusett, and the actress Sigourney Weaver one of the most iconic female characters of all times **Ellen Ripley**


> Originalmente el personaje principal de esta saga iba a ser Masculino, pero el director Ridley Scott decidió cambiarlo a femenino y hacer de élla un ejemplo de **luchadora**, creó junto a los guionistas Dan O'Bannon y Ronald Shusett, ademas de la actriz Sigourney Weaver, uno de los personajes femeninos más icónicos de todos los tiempos **Ellen Ripley**

Ripley was one of the first female characters I came to love in my life, I saw alien whole saga at the age of **7**, I didn't understand at the time the **underlying** story about resisting rape and becoming a symbolic **mother** of all mankind as the struggle of Ellen, but sure as hell seeing a woman holding a flame thrower and killing aliens looked respectable for me when I was a small child, I learned front it to love strong and decisive **women**.  


> Ripley fue uno de los primeros personajes femeninos que llegué a amar en mi vida, vi toda la saga de Aliens a la edad de **7**, no entendí en su momento la historia **subyacente** de la lucha de Ellen, el resistir la violación y convertirse en una **madre** simbólica de toda la humanidad, pero seguro que ver a una mujer sosteniendo un lanzallamas y matando alienígenas me pareció respetable cuando era pequeño, y con ello aprendí frente a ella a amar a las **mujeres** fuertes y decididas.

The symbolism behind Ripley is the one of a *former* **victim**, the one who lost her innocence and learned ways to cope with the pain, became empowered, and started to protect others front such **assaults**. She is the first movie takes a basically *suicidal* decision, to froze herself for a *"slight"* chance of survival, even at the expense of never seeing her daughter again, something we learn in the sequel Aliens. 


When she takes that decision is already at the point where she sacrificed a *"normal"* life in exchange for killing the so call creature(Xenomorph) and in return avoiding that pain and suffering for all human race, she not only took a hard choice to not see her daughter again, but did so to save all **mankind**.


> El simbolismo detrás de Ripley es el de una *antigua* **víctima**, la que perdió su inocencia y aprendió formas de sobrellevar el dolor, la que se empoderó y comenzó a proteger a otros frente a tales **asaltos**. En la primera película que toma una decisión básicamente *suicida*, al congelarse para tener una *"ligera"* posibilidad de sobrevivir, incluso a costa de no volver a ver a su hija, algo que aprendemos en la secuela Aliens. 


> Cuando toma esa decisión ya está en el punto en el que sacrificó una vida *"normal"* a cambio de matar a la llamada criatura(Xenomorfo) y a cambio de evitar ese dolor y sufrimiento a toda la raza humana, no sólo tomó una dura decisión de no volver a ver a su hija, sino que lo hizo para salvar a la **humanidad**.

In the sequel the bet is double down and taked to a new level, the way she decides to in a symbolic way to **adopt** Newt and take care of her is a representation of ***motherhood*** and the purest love and hope for the future. A new side of the character we dint manage to see before, evolving it to a more humane and fragile person, making it more real for the viewers. 


> En la secuela la apuesta se redobla y se lleva a un nuevo nivel, la forma en que decide simbólicamente **adoptar** a Newt y cuidarla es una representación de la ***maternidad*** junto al más puro amor y esperanza en el futuro. Una nueva faceta del personaje que no logramos ver antes, evolucionando a una persona más humana y frágil, haciéndola más real para los espectadores.

But now that it comes to children, the way the fourth movie is created is deeply **disturbing**, we see a Ripley that is broken beyond *boundaries*, a resurrected one to boot, she has lost both her **humanity** and herself identity. The only known child she has is a result of a face-hugger(Alien egg), a clear statement of being a rape child. And seeing her sacrifice that child for the safety and survival of mankind is a painful act because even if it was rape, she loved her child and sacrificed so much of herself to **keep** it. Of course, her child could potentially destroy the entire planet but well, is an alien after all. 


>  Pero ahora que se trata de niños, la forma en que se crea la cuarta película es profundamente **perturbadora**, vemos a una Ripley que está rota más allá de los *límites*, una resucitada para colmo, ha perdido tanto su **humanidad** y su propia identidad. El único hijo conocido que tiene es el resultado de un face-hugger(huevo alienigena), una clara declaración de ser violada. Y verla sacrificar a ese niño por la seguridad y la supervivencia de la humanidad es un acto doloroso porque, aunque fuera una violación, ella amaba a su hijo y sacrificó mucho de sí misma para **conservarlo**. Por supuesto, su hijo podría potencialmente destruir todo el planeta pero bueno, es un alienígena, después de todo.

At this point of the saga, Ellen no longer takes these **choices** in a fully conscious way, she is working with her mother *instincts* and know the result of her child touching planet earth, she knows fully that mankind **extinction** would come to be if her child turns into a queen and lays eggs, and is fully aware of the *dangers*, so she leaves the saving of mankind in hands of others while she mourns the loss of this *"evil"* child.


> En este punto de la saga, Ellen ya no toma estas **decisiones** de forma totalmente consciente, está trabajando con sus *instintos* maternos y conoce el resultado de que su hijo toque el planeta tierra, sabe perfectamente que la **extinción** de la humanidad se produciría si su hijo se convierte en una reina y pone huevos, y es totalmente consciente de los *peligros*, así que deja la salvación de la humanidad en manos de otros mientras llora la pérdida de este *niño "malvado"*.

Ripley example of **sacrifice** and symbolic motherhood of all mankind is what takes this saga to become a classic, and shows that the decision of making it a *female* character is what gives this saga its purpose, is **meaning** and above all, is what gave it a deep human touch to what could have to be a generic thriller with no relevance. 


> El ejemplo de Ripley de **sacrificio** y maternidad simbólica de toda la humanidad es lo que lleva a esta saga a convertirse en un clásico y demuestra que la decisión de hacerla un personaje *femenino* como aquello que le da a esta saga su propósito, es **sentido** y sobre todo, es lo que le dio un profundo toque humano a lo que podría haber sido un thriller genérico sin relevancia.

This character building sets an example of how to build a good female character on **cinema**, to create a symbol of a struggle, and disguise it into something meaningless, to create a life inspiring character that changes things.
