I am a fan of small government. Education of the masses might be a better solution.  We will need to have some painful retrenchments in the ico world and I think that that will drive people to seek more government input into the space.

Anyone buying into these token sales in the US is – according to the law – buying securities, which require special licenses from the company holding the ICO. With US regulators aiming to venture into the cryptocurrency ICO world, things could get quite interesting moving forward.

So yes, the SEC will move quickly to regulate ICOs...

Ethereum has proven it's ability to self - regulate with their rejection of the DAO. The government is now the DAO trying to attack. Will the precedent set by Ethereum effect the outcome? Absolutely.

Why would they not regulate?  The IRS has approved ETH and BTC for IRA nad 401K accounts, they had those Senate Hearings under Obama, and there is a Senate bill which if passed would apply Banking laws to exchanges and crypto brokers... I see many .GOV interferences, approvals and intrusions forthcoming.  Great Topic!
