A sunset is one of the most prophetic sights for me. When I see a beautiful sunset, there is an inner calm that helps me, to clear my mind and know, that what's ahead of me; will be positive and wonderful. This photo was from another running event, Tiffany and I participated in. It was in Downtown Kissimmee, Florida and it was a great way to support our community, as we had not ran that event in all the years we've lived in this county.

I don't ever classify myself as a spiritual person, much less religious. I grew up in Brooklyn and my late Mother was never really religious and actually was in search of, what is ahead of her in death as she was counting her days. She had battled cancer for many years and was ready to move on, but was at a loss on where she was heading. My cousin spent a few hours discussing it with her and they went over the whole Bible thing and so forth. I believe my mother was satisfied with that discussion and had enough clarity to move forward.. She passed on, not too long after that. She was home during the talk with my cousin, but under hospice care.

Living in the hood, was never so bad. I had the opportunity to go to Catholic school in my first few years of schooling, but my mother was not able to afford to keep me in; so I had to eventually transfer over to public school and definitely not the best path for me; because I had potential, academically. I was a real smart kid, considering that the neighborhood I was being raised in; was going to be a stumbling block. Without question, those few years in Catholic school; helped me early on with my transition to public school. 

The problem was falling into those traps of wanting to do well in school, but being the class clown, impressing the girls and hanging with the cool crowd became more important and that is surely nothing new for a lot of people; but for some of us, we went into a deeper hole from there. I pretty much was in self-sabotage mode most of my life, but I do have that tenacious part of me; to always claw myself out of tight spots and usually come out ok on the other side. At some point, that shit doesn't work anymore. Growing up and realizing that time is your arbiter and things just have to give.

I remember being a kid in those same streets and living through the four seasons in New York. Nothing like it. Back in the day, every season was unique to it's expectations and even at it's worst coldest and snowy days including the aftermath or the hellish heat coming off the tar of the streets, it was almost a guarantee; that each season had it's run of 3 to 4 months and the next season came in and it was a joy each time. My favorite season was Spring. Not too hot and not too cold and the scent of Spring even in the ghetto was magical. 

Through each season the backdrop of a sunset is different, but for me; what I see through each one, is my halfway to paradise.
