We live in the age of information – and with that, our attention spans have disappeared. We consume in small doses, moving on quickly to the next distraction. Now, I’m not going to wax on the implications of this to our society and culture; but if you want to grab people’s attention and keep it, then you need to master the art of virality. 

There’s a lot of junk out there, and what people really want is engaging content that adds value to their day. Preferably, it will also educate and entertain. With the average young adult spending just under 18 hours a day (no joke!) consuming content of different types, you really need to stand out. 

There are a few things you can do to lift up your viral game – and it all starts with being real. People don’t want Hollywood, they want to see the real person behind the product or service. The good news here is that you don’t need the A grade camera and equipment here; just yourself. 

While you’re doing you, don’t forget to make people feel good. That’s the key to getting the shares and likes you crave. People don’t want to feel bad, so keep them smiling with great content that’s useful, engaging, and most of all, makes them smile.

You’ll also want to be active. In this age of constant distraction, the best way to grab it is to jump straight in. Skip boring introductions and get straight to the point. Surprise, delight, and engage within the first few seconds and half of the battle is won! 

Viral content can be made, but ultimately, it’s your audience that decides if it is viral or not. Keep plugging away, keep trying, and always work to better yourself – it’s the best way to boost your views and get the attention you deserve!
