If you’re new to internet marketing, you may be wondering just why you need a blue alien guy to help you out with your marketing. Jokes aside, no, you really do! An avatar in marketing is essentially your ‘perfect customer. That’s to say, the ideal customer you want for your business.

Why is this so important? Well, it’s all about the marketing message. You already know that sending out a clear and consistent message is vital for your brand, but how can you do this without knowing who you are talking to?

Having a customer avatar lets you really nail down the details of who your service helps, and can even help you to optimize and improve that service without needing to run expensive surveys. With an avatar, you have a persona that lets you create a message that revolves around your ideal customer, thus attracting them. 

Creating one can be a little bit of work, but in my experience, it is worth it, and one of the first things that I do when breaking into a new niche – for me, it is a mandatory part of my niche research. You’re going to want to dive deep into what makes people interested in the niche and your product want, and why. Demographics are also useful; you would market very differently to a 21-year-old guy than a 74-year-old woman.

It’s also useful knowing “who” the perfect customer is. It’s easier to imagine their pain points, their wants, their needs and desires, and create a brand that perfectly captures that market. This is a huge stumbling point for many, and an avatar simply makes it 100% easier. You need an avatar – so get one ASAP!
