Let's talk about my lineup

Summoner: Ilthain

Ilthain sends back ranged attacks and boosts the speed for each of my monsters. You'll notice how important that speed is in this battle.

Tank: Pelacor Conjurer

For some of the less experienced Splinterlands players this card doesn't look like much. It soaks up a couple of hits for 2 mana, but doesn't have it's own attack. The combination of flying and speed worked out to be several misses for my opponent. At higher levels the Conjurer gets even better with abilities like magic reflect, divine shield and phase.

1st position: Jared Scar

Jared comes with the Bloodlust ability at level 1. My Cryptonaires guild still have a level 1 Barracks that we're working on, so we still can't use monsters from the Gladius set, but there are other ways to get Bloodlust and Jared has become ridiculously inexpensive. For just 7 mana and with 1 extra speed this compares very favorably to the more popular Grum Flameblade. Once you start to feed Bloodlust this monster quickly becomes too much for my opponent to handle.

2nd position: Creeping Ooze

While Jared has become ridiculously cheap the value of the Creeping Ooze is becoming gradually more apparent and increasing in price. This monster slows down your opponent for just 1 mana and fills that important 1 mana hole for any splinter.

When our current legendary rewards cards reach the completion of their print run they will be more plentiful than the Creeping Ooze. I would recommend picking up a copy if you don't already have one.

3rd position: Soul Fiend

For 0 mana there's no reason to not include this here. It provides a little layer of protection from sneak attacks for Creeping Ooze and Jared. It was a bonus that this was able to attack from the back line in this ruleset.

4th position: Furious Chicken

Soaks up an extra sneak attack hit for 0 mana. I think it's helpful to have this at level 1 without a melee attack to attract snipe attacks in the right situations. Also that leaves it available for your lineup when melee attacks are not available for a given ruleset.

Did we win?

Yes. I was lucky to have my opponent miss with several attacks, but using monsters like Pelacor Conjurer and Creeping Ooze and having Ilthain as my summoner helped with that.

Do I like Jared Scar?

Yes. The first few times that I used Grum, I wasn't convinced of the bloodlust utility. I think these monsters are more effective when they can attack from the back line and aren't killed before they can start to level up.

What will I try differently next time?

I was certainly happy with the result of this match. I have become a pretty big fan of both Ilthain and Jared. A water splinter lineup with Alric and Wavesmith could have been very effective here.
