CABINET MAKER X #8 Cabinet Door Repair. Part 4
<center><a href='https://d.tube/#!/v/jist/ui0svmjn'><img src='https://i.imgur.com/BE8GjvO.jpg'></a></center>

Hi everyone and welcome back to part 4.

In this video I actually glue up the door.

I discuss how I like to spread the glue evenly with a splint of wood and that I also cover the mortise and tenon. This is so that when the tenon is pushed together all the glue is not sent to the bottom of the mortise.

The panel should not have any glue on it and this is to allow for shrinkage and expansion.

I also talk about how oak and some other woods will turn blue when they come into contact with water and iron. The way to avoid this is to remove any excess (water based) glue and/ or use a barrier between the wood and the clamps , like paper for example. Sometimes just a damp atmosphere can cause it.

When the door is clamped up I then check it is inline with my template. I describe how the clamps can be set at an angle in order to square up the frame if needed. This is a great and very accurate way to fine tune your piece.

I then leave the door to set. I prefer to leave it over night to let the glue really cure well. You can remove glued items from the clamps after an hour ,(if the temperature is good) But you must handle them very carefully. If the item is knocked out of square when it has been taken out early you would need to start again, so for this reason I like to do any gluing towards the end of the day so that they can stay in the clamps overnight.

If you have any questions about woodwork, furniture or being self employed as a crafts person let me know.

I know my wood and I have spent years teaching myself furniture making , furniture history as well as living it as a self employed cabinet maker .

I am also in the process of writing a
