**Inflation, Inflation, Inflation...**  

In all honesty, I don't really fully understand how Inflation works despite reading many articles talking about that topic. Like I know it's textbook definition but if someone asked me what Inflation is, I probably will just say: ***Inflation is the rate of increase in prices over a given period of time***. (*Heh! Classic textbook definition*) with nothing more to add. 

Anyway, as I was browsing around my News Feed hours ago, I stumbled upon this article from **Rappler** trying to explain what Inflation really is: *https://www.rappler.com/philippines-inflation-meaning*

But what caught my attention though is the Calculator in there, a calculator that calculates how much in equivalent value of your past peso compared to the pesos now.

For visual reference, here is what I set in the calculator inside that link:

So if I had P500 in the year 1992, I would be able to buy at least:

**8kg of rice
1kg of fish (bangus)
2kg of liempo
2pc/s of chicken
20pc/s of egg 
0.51kg of sitaw
0.62kg of tomatoe
0.39kg of onion
0.39kg of sugar
0.77 bottle/s of oil**

Compared to now (year 2019) in which P500 only gets me:

**3kg of rice
0.42kg of fish (bangus)
0.52kg of liempo
0.67pc/s of chicken
7pc/s of egg 
0.17kg of sitaw
0.20kg of tomatoe
0.13kg of onion
0.13kg of sugar
0.25 bottle/s of oil**

Around a 3-fold decrease in the amount of goods one can afford to buy!!!

A quick google search would give us that the minimum wage in 1992 (NCR) is only **P.127.83** which have now increased to **P500-P537** this year (NCR). Although that's a 4-fold increase, I'm not sure if that is enough though.
