My First Embroidered T-Shirt

My grandson has a birthday coming up. He will be two years old and I wanted to start working on his gifts. I designed a T-shirt for his birthday and I stitched it out this morning. Even though I have been embroidering quite a bit, I have never embroidered on T-shirt fabric.

I changed the needle on my machine to a ballpoint needle which is used on jersey fabric. I also used a different type of stabilizer for my embroidery hoop.

I use three different types of stabilizers when I am embroidering, cut-away, tear-away, and water soluble. There is also a product called Gentle Touch which is applied for garments used on babies and children. It keeps the embroidery stitches from scratching gentle skin.

Cut-away stabilizer was used on my t-shirt since my grandson has delicate skin. My first challenge was putting the T-shirt on top of the embroidery hoop. I marked with a water soluble pen the center of the hoop on the stabilizer and on the shirt. I also used my adhesive spray to make sure that the shirt did not move.

One thing that I noticed when I was finished. I should have placed the design closer up to the neckline.

Other than that, I am very pleased with the results. The only thing left that I have to do now is apply the gentle touch to the back of the shirt, and put water on the water soluble marks I made to center the design. My next shirt will look better.
