I bought a few things from an artist who had a studio over 30 years ago. One of the items that I bought was a pottery wheel. I took classes that I had to pay for for 6 weeks while I was still working for a living. After a while, I put my "hobby" away and went back to work related projects.  Now that I am retired, I can go back to the things that I enjoy doing that are artistically challenging for me. I pulled out my old wheel since I am now taking a free pottery wheel class at the senior center. My wheel is very old and does not have variable speed. It has a high and a low speed that is controlled by a switch. That's fine for me. The greater challenge however has been no bat pins.  I read about an artist's solution online and also watched a video on YouTube demonstrating how to add clay directly to the wheel head and then sticking the bat into the clay. The clay holds the bat down like cement. It works great! It leaves more clean up afterwards but that's okay. I have to take the bitter with the sweet.  I made another dish and stopped because the blue bat works better than the black plastic bat.  The blue bat has open channels on the back which makes it easier to adhere to the wet clay on the wheel head. The other bats that I bought are slick and do not stick as well.  I'll try again tomorrow. I'm satisfied with my product for today. Have a great day!
