Their latest acquisition is a Free Mason bible from the late 1800’s. <center></center> He wanted to unbox it the evening I arrived in town. But after hearing how a vintage photo album spooked everyone including the dog, I wasn’t up for it. A: “It’s a bible.....” JNET: “It’s late. I’m jet-lagged and vodka’d. Best to wait for morning.” M: “I will need to sage it first. Just because it’s a bible doesn’t mean it gets a free pass.” They were still recovering from a brief haunting. A had purchased an album that someone had made in the 40’s. Yeah...they heard strange stuff. Stuff that I had no energy for at the moment. I was going to sleep with the lights on. Yet, I trusted my hosts. I felt grateful that they were able to have sense enough to know if something affects them, or feels out of place, and to act quickly. The album was returned to the seller who then divulged that four customers before them had also done. It scared me to realize that they skirted a reality that I hoped to not share. Ever. A really REALLY wanted to unbox the package. He asked several times. I never got tired of saying no. Others may have notions to entertain a haunting. I didn’t care to tempt the dark side. JNET: “I don’t have the focus or strength to deal with spirit stuff.” Morning came and A brought the box to breakfast. M: “Wait, I need to sage that. Outside.” Their civilian ghostbusters routine charmed me. Their hobby of finding old things not knowing if they were to face a haunting or foreign cockroaches was quirky and oddly romantic. My cousin saged the Bible, herself, her fiancé, and myself. The book was opened and examined. No bad juju made its presence known. The dog didn’t care and the book made it to the bookcase. A told me to take in a good breath of books that only a bibliophile can appreciate. Aaahhhh books. Ahhhh love. I didn’t sleep well but I was certain of one thing that gave me great comfort. My cousin is happy and loved. Sometimes she faces bad juju. But she feels safe and strong. Sage. Good stuff.
