Three Quick Tips for Writing a Winning Counter-Argument
1. When introducing a counter-argument, **use phrases** that clearly show that this is an argument the opposition will make (not you).
“Those who oppose this view posit that…”
“Some argue that…”
“Some assert that…”
“Some claim that…”

2. **Introduce the counter-argument succintly** in two to three sentences. Your purpose is not to flesh out the argument of the opposition, but to give a clear and concise summary of their argument. Your purpose is to acknowledge that some might have objections to the main argument you are proposing.

3. After that succint summary, the key word is “_However_”. This is where you will present an **elaborate refutation** of the counter-argument.
