Si en un filme juntamos a un elenco de primer nivel, dirigidos por uno de los directores más reconocidos de la industria, sin dudas, nos llamará la atención y en algún momento la veremos, incluso si han pasado años desde su estreno. Confieso que eso me sucedió con este filme, al cual por alguna razón no le di mucha importancia en su momento, pero ahora que se encuentra disponible en Netflix decidí verlo y analizarlo por mi cuenta.

Esta es una película interesante que combina el drama con la comedia, sin embargo, en los minutos finales posee características de Thriller, un metraje de más de dos horas y una historia que atrae a los amantes del séptimo arte.

Rick Dalton es una estrella de una serie televisiva sobre el lejano oeste, su carrera se ha construido por sus dotes como actor junto a su doble de riesgo, esta estrella de Hollywood debe demostrar que la calidad de sus actuaciones son de primer nivel y enfrenta ese pensamiento de que su carrera ya se encuentra en su ocaso.

# Una vida alrededor del Hollywood



Pienso que la propuesta de sumergirnos dentro de la industria cinematográfica, específicamente dentro del afamado Hollywood, es de los puntos más positivos y atrayentes del film (además de los nombres propios en el póster). Muchas veces observamos películas o series producidas en ese lugar, sin embargo, ignoramos muchos aspectos que pueden ocurrir dentro del rodaje o bien de la propia vida de aquellas estrellas que observamos en la gran pantalla, introducirnos en este ámbito con la promesa de drama y comedia, sin dudas hace un efecto de magnetismo para los que le agradan las producciones norteamericanas.



El filme contempla un guion con una bifurcación en la trama, es decir, conoceremos un poco más de la historia tanto de Rick Dalton (Leonardo DiCaprio) como la de Cliff Booth (Brad Pitt), aunque concuerdan en gran parte del metraje, cada uno posee una historia en este filme, aunque pareciera tratar de exprimir minutos a la producción, siento que fue algo interesante, ya que la narrativa es bastante agradable.

# Actuaciones y Personajes



Creo que el diseño y evolución de los personajes es bastante bueno, por supuesto, interpretados por actores emblemáticos del cine, ese "dúo dinámico" que hacen DiCaprio y Pitt funciona, es de ese estilo de películas en que el actor secundario es tan bueno como el protagonista, o quizás le supera según la perspectiva de cada quien. Desde mi punto de vista completan un cuadro interpretativo relevante y muy efectivo para la trama.



# Mantenerse en la Carrera



Otro aspecto que me agrada en este filme, es ese sentimiento de que la carrera del afamado actor ya ha tocado su punto más alto y ahora comienza el descenso que terminaría en el retiro de la industria cinematográfica. Me agrada este tema que bien lo podemos encontrar tanto en el cine como en el deporte y otras carreras profesionales donde los experimentados son desplazados por el talento más joven.

Me agrada que Dalton se esfuerza al máximo para lograr mantenerse a flote ante las dudas y las criticas sobre su carrera, incluso realizando una escena propia de un maestro actoral, impresionante desde cualquier punto de vista. Ese sentimiento que le carcome por dentro, lo utiliza para demostrar que puede seguir en el medio artístico.



Cliff Booth, por otro lado, se sumerge en una historia distinta y que termina siendo el catalizador de un final que muchos no esperaríamos.



# ¿Comedia?



Si incluimos a DiCaprio en una trama de comedia, esperaríamos muchas risas, sin embargo, la comedia no es tan significativa (desde mi punto de vista), creo que se queda corta en comparación a las expectativas que al menos yo poseía sobre el filme, sin embargo, puedo decir que si hubo algunas escenas cómicas en donde pude reír.

# Thriller



Al principio de esta publicación mencioné, existe algunas escenas donde se introduce en este género, estas escenas me gustaron mucho, creo que fueron un punto positivo al filme y que las recordaremos, un poco de humor negro que es efectivo, sin embargo, fueron pocos minutos con este ritmo desenfrenado bastante envolvente.



La trama se desarrolla con algo de pausa, para luego saltar a este momento que me parece un muy buen toque final del filme, por su puesto, para los que le agrada algo de sangre.




# Fotografía y Ambientación



Otro aspecto que me agradó es esa ambientación de los años 60, los autos, las cámaras, vestimenta, cada aspecto con un detalle sorprendente y bastante llamativo, me agradó que el filme se ambientara en esos años de gloria de Hollywood. En cuanto a la fotografía, la paleta de colores cálida impacta en los ojos de buena manera, realmente un trabajo técnico bastante bueno desde mi opinión.

# Opinión Final



Siendo sincero, el filme me gustó, posee un buen desarrollo, un buen guion y hasta sorpresas inesperadas, sin embargo, no me parece una obra maestra como algunos críticos en otras plataformas la presentan, a veces, estoy contra la corriente en cuando a esas afirmaciones, pero eso no quiere decir que este filme sea una perdida de tiempo, todo lo contrario, creo que a pesar de un metraje relativamente extenso vale la pena verla.



Quentin Tarantino es de mis directores favoritos, pareciera que todo en lo que trabaja tiene como destino convertirse en oro, incluso al tener su nombre en el póster ya es una razón para ver cualquier película producida por él, este caso no es la excepción, sin embargo, a mi parecer no es la mejor de sus producciones.

Sí, posee un buen desarrollo y el entretenimiento está asegurado gracias a los personajes y al desenvolvimiento de la trama, un poco de risas y hasta algo de thriller, una película completa que toma su tiempo para construir su argumento, a pesar de durar 160 minutos vale la pena darle una oportunidad. La recomiendo.

If a film brings together a first class cast, directed by one of the most renowned directors in the industry, it will undoubtedly catch our attention and at some point we will watch it, even if it has been years since its release. I confess that this happened to me with this film, which for some reason I didn't give much thought to at the time, but now that it is available on Netflix I decided to watch it and analyse it for myself.

# A Life Around Hollywood

I think that the proposal to immerse us inside the film industry, specifically inside the famous Hollywood, is one of the most positive and appealing points of the film (apart from the names on the poster). Many times we watch films or series produced in that place, however, we ignore many aspects that may occur within the filming or the life of those stars we watch on the big screen, introducing us to this area with the promise of drama and comedy, undoubtedly makes a magnetising effect for those who like American productions.

The film is scripted with a bifurcation in the plot, that is, we get to know a little more of the story of both Rick Dalton (Leonardo DiCaprio) and Cliff Booth (Brad Pitt), although they agree in much of the footage, each has a story in this film, although it seems to try to squeeze minutes to the production, I feel it was something interesting, as the narrative is quite nice.

I think that the design and evolution of the characters is quite good, of course, played by emblematic actors of the cinema, that "dynamic duo" that DiCaprio and Pitt make works, it is of that style of films in which the supporting actor is as good as the protagonist, or perhaps surpasses him depending on the perspective of each one. From my point of view they complete a relevant and very effective acting cadre for the plot.

# Staying on the Run

Another aspect that I like in this film, is the feeling that the career of the famous actor has already reached its peak and now begins the descent that would end in retirement from the film industry. I like this theme that can be found in film as well as in sport and other professional careers where the experienced are displaced by younger talent.

I like that Dalton does his best to stay afloat in the face of doubts and criticism about his career, even performing a scene befitting a master actor, impressive by any standards. He uses the feeling that eats away at him to prove that he can stay in the business.

Cliff Booth, on the other hand, immerses himself in a different story and ends up being the catalyst for an ending that many of us would not expect.

# Comedy?

If we include DiCaprio in a comedy plot, we would expect a lot of laughs, however, the comedy is not that significant (from my point of view), I think it falls short of the expectations that at least I had for the film, however, I can say that there were some funny scenes where I could laugh.

# Thriller

At the beginning of this publication I mentioned, there are some scenes where it is introduced in this genre, these scenes I liked a lot, I think they were a positive point to the film and that we will remember them, a bit of black humor that is effective, however, were few minutes with this rampant pace quite involving.

The plot develops with a bit of a pause, and then jumps to this moment which I think is a very nice final touch to the film, of course, for those who like a bit of gore.

# Cinematography and Setting

Another aspect that I liked is the 60's setting, the cars, the cameras, the costumes, every aspect with a surprising detail and quite striking, I liked that the film was set in those glory years of Hollywood. As for the cinematography, the warm colour palette hits the eyes in a good way, really quite a good technical work in my opinion.

To be honest, I liked the film, it has a good development, a good script and even unexpected surprises, however, I do not think it is a masterpiece as some critics on other platforms present it, sometimes, I am against the current when it comes to those statements, but that does not mean that this film is a waste of time, on the contrary, I think that despite a relatively long footage it is worth watching it.

Quentin Tarantino is one of my favourite directors, it seems that everything he works on is destined to become gold, even having his name on the poster is already a reason to see any film produced by him, this case is no exception, however, in my opinion it is not the best of his productions.
