Le insidie delle norme sui diritti d'autore possono sembrare ostacoli fastidiosi da scacciare scocciati.

“Questa foto non si può usare, quel video nemmeno, il link neppure..... ma che palle!”

In realtà se tutti noi seguissimo il principio generale del voler creare (postare) solo blog dai contenuti originali, senza appropriassi della creatività altrui, nessuno vivrebbe le costrizioni del diritto intellettuale come un peso e tantomeno si porrebbero questioni di plagio. Ma si sa,  trovare materiale originale da proporre in maniera consistente non è facile.

Anche la musica ha le proprie regole da rispettare in fatto di copyright e ignorarle non è cosa consigliabile.

Le composizioni musicali, soprattutto delle band degli ultimi decenni, sono tutelate da norme severe  che ne regolano la riproduzione e l'utilizzo da parte di terzi.  Occorre quindi cautela nella scelta dei brani musicali che intendiamo utilizzare per abbellire od accompagnare video blog e video filmati da postare in rete, soprattutto se per fini commerciali. Chi non si adegua rischia di creare un danno, sia per se stesso che per la  piattaforma dei propri post.

Come cautelarsi dunque nella propria scelta di una colonna sonora? In fondo non siamo mica tutti capaci di comporre musica orecchiabile da soli, non è così?

Per fortuna su internet esistono siti dediti alla soluzione di questo dilemma presso i quali è possibile torvare “copyright free music” scaricabile ed utilizzabile per i nostri scopi. Si tratta di websites dediti alla diffusione di musica spesso gratis, libera da usare se pur con i vincoli delle licenze Creative Commons (CC).

È importante sottolineare che non si può fare proprio quel che si vuole con la musica scaricata da questi siti. Occorre sempre accertarsi che l’uso concesso dall’autore dei brani (chiarita nella licenza CC) soddisfa le nostre intenzioni e le nostre esigenze. Ad esempio, non tutte le musiche possono essere utilizzate per scopi commerciali. Alcune musiche esigono che l'autore venga riconosciuto con un “credit”. Ci sono pure brani musicali che possono essere modificati oppure campionati, altri che non concedono questo e via discorrendo.

Sotto v’è un elenco di alcuni siti web con musica CC scaricabili gratuitamente:

* soundcloud.com
Bel sito con una grande varietà di musica disponibile per uso commerciale in vlog e video filmati. L’interfaccia del sito non è subito facile da comprendere ed occorre acquisire un pò di dimestichezza per muoversi con disinvoltura ma la varietà di generi musicali è notevole. Alcuni brani sono scaricabili a pagamento altri invece totalmente free.  Talvolta le etichette CC non sono facili da trovare. Esistono tutorial su YouTube che spiegano come districarsi su Soundcloud. Suggerisco una ricerca tipo: “How to find royalty free music on Soundcloud”.


* audionautix.com
Sito web ove al momento sono presenti solamente brani che ricadono nella categoria Creative Commons 3.0 (uso commerciale concesso).
Il sito si presenta con interfaccia facile ed intuitivo nel quale la ricerca di musica si effettua in base al genere desiderato (rock, jazz, reggae), il tempo (lento, veloce o medio) e le sensazioni emotive desiderate (happy, uplifting, sad, ecc.). 

* freemusicarchive.org 
Molta musica da cui scegliere qui ma occorre fare particolare attenzione alla licenze CC associate ai singoli brani che variano da un artista all’altro/a. L’interfaccia è facile ed intuitivo ed una ricerca mirata permette di scovare musica  consona alle proprie esigenze entro pochi minuti.



* freesound.org
Un  sito web molto interessante in cui  si possono scovare  registrazioni  molto particolari piuttosto che brani musicali. Si trova un po di tutto, dal fruscio del vento tra le foglie di un albero all'infrangersi delle onde del mare su di una spiaggia. Ci sono pure  suoni elettronici bizzarri per accompagnare chissà quali progetti forse tecno-new age.  



Esistono altri siti sul web simili a quelli elencati sopra. Credo tuttavia, che quelli riportati siano sufficienti per soddisfare le esigenze dei più  in fatto di musica di sottofondo per  vlog oppure colonne sonore di  filmati per post su YouTube, DTube, Vmeo, ed altri social. 

Rispettiamo la creatività altrui allo stesso modo in cui vorremmo che venisse rispettata la nostra.

For those of us who have little to no knowledge of copyright laws and issues, the limitations that these impose can seem annoying.

“Cant use this picture, cannot use that video. WTF, what can I use?!”

Actually if we all simply stuck to the basic rule that all our online posts should contain original content only, then the issues of copyright infringement would have little to do with us at all. Of course, finding original content to post consistently is far from easy.

Music, just like photographs and videos, is also subject to copyright law and we should all keep this in mind when selecting tunes for our video blogs, video tutorials and movie posts that we share online.

The work produced by composers and artists, both of recent and distant past (several decades)  is covered by copyright law which can be enforced severely. Those who chose to ignore this fact do so at the risk of damaging themselves and the social platform on which they chose to post. 

How can we protect ourselves and steer clear of copyright issues with regards to music? I mean, we’re not all musically talented individuals capable of composing a catchy tune for ourselves, right?

Luckily the internet comes to the rescue! There are dedicated websites with a plethora of copyright free music made available for download and use under Creative Commons (CC) licence agreements. 

It’s important to note that you can’t just download music from these sites and use it as you please. You must make sure that the purpose you intend to use a chosen piece of music for, falls under the CC license agreement that accompanies it. For instance, some music tracks cannot be used for commercial purposes while others can. Some tunes can be sampled, remixed and rearranged, others cannot. Some tunes are devoid of all restriction, etc.

Here’s a list of some of the most popular websites on which free, downloadable CC music can be found:

* soundcloud.com
A huge selection of music here although the web page design can be a little confusing at first. There’s free music for every genre, mood and even tempo (fast, medium, slow). The CC labels for each piece of music is sometimes not clearly shown. I recommend searching for a quick tutorial on YouTube on how to make the most of the site. Try looking for: “How to find royalty free music on Soundcloud”.

* audionautix.com
Simple website with a very intuitive lay out. All music at audionautix is available under CC license 3.0, meaning it can be used for commercial purposes as well (but be sure to give the author credit).
The search engine allows you to choose genre, tempo and mood as well.

* freemusicarchieve.org
Another great site for free downloadable music.  Huge selection of music again on an intuitive webpage interface. The CC licenses though vary greatly from one author to the other so particular care should be taken when considering a tune for commercial use. 

* freesound.org
An amazing site which specialises in copyright free sounds rather than music. There’s a great selection of sounds from nature (waves, wind, leaves) and sound effects for the latest Techno beat and similar, too. There’s a bit of everything and almost all free for download with corresponding CC license obligations clearly marked.

The above websites are just a few of the ones in which copyright free music is available. Of course there are several   others for sure.  However, I believe the ones above are sufficiently stockpiled to satisfy most users who concern themselves with copyright issues for their online blogs and videos. Of course any further suggestions are most welcome in the comments below.
