Of a quake,

The muffled rumble
Of coal down a chute

As I lie in bed awake.

<br>Now the drum of rain
And rush of wind

Sky lit by flares
And artillery;

Night rain stirs
A distant memory

Dark dreams
And genealogy —

A war I never knew
