And it's good to remember they are treated as such.

One detractor I've found to SteemIt as a community is there isn't much action in the comments. People create comments on posts, and authors will often respond, but there is very little back and forth between commenters.

It's a shame, because some comments are highly informative. There have been a few times where I've found comments that are more enjoyable to read than the original post.

I say this, but it's something I realize I need to improve on as well. I sometimes reply to interesting comments left in other people's posts, but not enough to say I'm taking my own medicine. It's a process.

Still, it's surprising there isn't more discussion. Every comment you make has the same reward structure as a normal post. You lack the Power Up ability (unless I'm overlooking it) but otherwise you get the same rewards for upvoting and posting comments. Rightly you should too! Again, comments ARE content!

So take a moment to read through the comments secion of that super interesting post. Strike up a conversation with a stranger. Build community not only through one-on-one conversations, but with many people each giving their own take on the subject.

Public discourse is the best thing for a growing community.
