<liketuimages> <center>     "This is what a time machine would feel like!" That is what I thought during the entire night of Gabii sa Kabilin. In today's post, I am taking you to two Cebuano cultural sites. Are you ready? Let's get walking! We visited *Fort San Pedro.* Below are facts I have gathered about the place: Fort San Pedro (Spanish: Fuerte de San Pedro) is a military defense structure in Cebu, Philippines, built by the Spanish under the command of Miguel López de Legazpi, first governor of the Captaincy General of the Philippines. It is located in the area now called Plaza Independencia, in the pier area of the city. The original fort was made of wood and built after the arrival of Legazpi and his expedition. In the early 17th century a stone fort was built to repel Muslim raiders. Today's structure dates from 1738 and is the oldest triangular bastion fort in the country. It served as the nucleus of the first Spanish settlement in the Philippines. During the Philippine Revolution at the end of the 19th century, it was attacked and taken by Filipino revolutionaries, who used it as a stronghold. 📝My Thoughts: I have been to Fort San Pedro a few times before this night. But it was during Gabii sa Kabilin that I learned more about this place. It meant safety to the revolutionaries who took shelter in the Fort during the Philippine revolution. THIS IS HUGE! Imagine walking in the very steps of the people who helped fought for our independence! That's when the "time machine" concept kicked in! This space used to house brave and courageous Filipinos who conquered the colonizers, and being in the place sure brings about goosebumps.          ---- The next place we were able to visit was the *Kabilin Center*! As for those who are asking, "kabilin" is a Cebuano-Visayan word for "heritage". The Kabilin Center is a room which houses the full throttle culture and heritage of Cebuanos!                Below are facts about this place I got from their official website: The Kabilin Center is a hub for Cebuano culture; a source of credible content and creative experience and a center for connection and collaboration that brings pride to Cebu. A changemaker in Cebu’s cultural scene. It is owned and managed by the Ramon Aboitiz Foundation Inc. (RAFI). The Kabilin Center is OPEN and you can visit the new exhibit, "Duyan Ang Kadagatan" (Cradled by the Sea).       </center> </liketuimages> 📝My Thoughts It was my first time visiting the Kabilin Center! FULL-BLOWN AWE - that's what I felt the entire time! The exhibit showcased the rich, vibrant and beautiful culture and resilience of our fishermen. As an island, many of our people here in Cebu have relied upon the sea for their lives. As our oceans are rich with plenty of catch, it can feed many mouths. Surely it has done so for generations. Which is why the exhibit was a tribute to the beautiful island seas of Cebu and its beautiful people, the fisherfolk, who have preserved our pristine waters throughout the years.
