El dimorfismo sexual, en este estudio se analizaron fósiles de ostrácodos, una clase de pequeños crustáceos que llevan existiendo casi 500 millones de años, esas criaturas viven dentro de conchas muy pequeñas y presentan un dimorfismo sexual muy notable, es decir, tienen formas específicas distintivas en cada sexo, los cuerpos y conchas alargadas pertenecen a machos, mientras que las hembras son más pequeñas, la concha alargada de los machos sirve para acomodar los grandes órganos sexuales que como más grandes son, más esperma producen, aumentando las oportunidades de éxito reproductivo de los individuos y lo que hicieron en este estudio fue realizar los fósiles de especies ya extintas comprobando como las especies con órganos sexuales más pequeños en los machos habían sobrevivido durante mucho más tiempo que aquellas con los órganos más grandes que duraban muy poco, se cree que esto es debido a que gastar tanta energía en la reproducción les terminaba pasando factura.<br />
