Selecting a favorite film genre, for me is difficult since I enjoy a wide variety of genres. But of course, there are always some that go more to my personal tastes like Horror/Suspense, I really enjoy this kind of movies or series, I could name movies like Insidius, A Quiet Place and The Descent or series like Stranger Things, Dark and Killing Eve. But this time, I don't want to talk about suspense, horror or any related genre.

Today I want to talk to you about two genres that I love very much, the genre of fantasy and science fiction or SCI-FI. These genres separately or mixed, particularly make me transport to a world outside the reality in which we already live. I love video games and with that I want to give you a clue why these two genres are my favorites.

Starting with the fantasy genre, it is characterized by having fantasy elements. Ok, this definition is kind of short, but to understand a little better, we should go back years ago when renowned painters made artistic works of fantasy or rather, works where they painted reality mixed with elements that stood out in such a way that reality took another focus.

Ok, esta definición esta como corta, pero para entender un poco mejor, habría que irse años atrás cuando los pintores de renombren hacían obras artísticas de fantasía o mejor dicho, obras donde pintaban la realidad mezclada con elementos que sobresalían de tal forma que la realidad tomaba otro enfoque.

Yes, I think I still don't understand, to give some examples, in fantasy we see things like magic, creatures (men with animal traits or animals with human traits or creatures out of the ordinary), places that are totally out of reality, dimensions and anything else that seems like it. When I talk about creatures, we can mention fairies, fauns, werewolves, dragons, chimeras, elves, goblins, etc.

> Si, creo que todavía no me doy a entender, para dar algunos ejemplos, en la fantasía vemos cosas como la magia, criaturas (hombres con rasgos de animales o animales con rasgos de hombre o criaturas fuera de lo común), lugares que están totalmente fuera de la realidad, dimensiones y cualquier otra cosa que le parezca. Cuando hablo de criaturas, podemos mencionar a las hadas, faunos, hombres lobos, dragones, quimeras, los elfos, duendes, etc.

With this definition I think I made myself understood a little bit, but I'll mention 2 movies and 1 series that I love for the way they embrace the fantasy world.

I'm going to start with Lord of the Rings. First of all, I want to tell you that they are among my favorite movies. Granted, there are a lot of variations in these movies from the books (almost all movies do), but I have enjoyed them as they are.  Both trilogies (The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit) were directed by Peter Jackson, are in the top box office and have won several awards, including some Oscars. 

> Voy a comenzar con el Señor de los anillos. Primero que nada, quiero decirles que son de mis películas favoritas. Es cierto que hay muchas variaciones en estas películas con respecto a los libros (casi todas las películas lo hacen), pero yo las he disfrutado tal cual como están.  Ambas trilogías (El Señor de los anillos y el Hobbit)fueron dirigidas por Peter Jackson, están en el top de películas taquilleras y han ganado diferentes premios, donde estacan algunos oscars

Particularly I feel very grateful for the whole universe created by J. R. R. Tolkien, for me to see these films is to live an adventure where danger abounds, different races, wizards, dragons and other creatures like the Ents, which make everything becomes a truly fantastic environment, without leaving aside the amazing battles, dialogues full of mysticism and learning. For me, for the most part, they are some of the best examples of the cinematic genre. 

> Particularmente me siento muy agradecido por todo el universo creado por J. R. R. Tolkien, para mi ver estas películas es vivir una aventura donde abunda el peligro, diferentes razas, magos, dragones y otras criaturas como los Ents, que hacen que todo se convierta en un entorno verdaderamente fantástico, sin dejar de lado las batallas sorprendentes, diálogos cargados de mucho misticismo y enseñanza. Para mí, en gran parte, son de los mejores ejemplos del genero cinematográfico.

With this movie we jumped a little more into fantasy mixed with horror elements, however, it is a movie that I enjoyed very much and is a perfect example of the genre. Directed by Guillermo del Toro, we could not expect a movie for children. As a short summary, in this film we will see how a little girl, who does not have an easy life, meets magic and a faun, a mystical creature that will test her to see if she has what it takes to live with her parents in the realm of another world.

> Con esta película saltamos un poco mas la fantasía mesclada con elementos terroríficos, sin embargo, es una película que disfrute muchísimo y que es un ejemplo perfecto del género. Dirigida por Guillermo del Toro, no podíamos esperar una película para niños. En forma de resumen corto, en esta película veremos como una niña, que no lleva una vida fácil, se encuentra con la magia y un fauno, una criatura mística que la podrá a prueba para ver si tiene lo necesario para llegar a vivir con sus padres en el reino de otro mundo.

I love this movie because it shows you the other side of fantasy, not everything is beautiful or friendly, not everything is gardens full of colors and fairies flying everywhere.  We are going to discover that as we accompany the little protagonist through challenges and situations that will make our hair stand on end. For me it is a perfect example of the fantasy film genre because this movie shows reality, but has elements that clearly leave that reality and guide you to a different world.

> Me encanta esta película porque te muestra el otro lado de la fantasía, no todo es hermoso ni amigable, no todo es jardines llenos de colores y hadas volando por todos lados.  Eso lo vamos a ir descubriendo mientras a acompañamos a la pequeña protagonista a través de pruebas y situaciones que pondrán nuestros pelos de punta. Para mi es un ejemplo perfecto del genero cinematográfico de fantasía porque esta película de muestra la realidad, pero tiene elementos que claramente salen de esa realidad y te guían hacia un mundo diferente.

I want to move on to mention a TV series I love, Charmed. A group of sisters with powers fighting demons and every representation of evil. It was 8 years of seasons watching the Halliwell sisters fighting demons and warlocks to protect "humanity". Charmed is a series that has it all, magic, fantastic creatures (demons come in here too), comedy, drama, plenty of action and a few other things.

> Quiero pasar a mencionarte una serie de TV que amo, Charmed. Un grupo de hermanas con poderes que luchan contra demonios y toda representación del mal. Fueron 8 años de temporadas viendo a las hermanas Halliwell luchando contra las demonios y hechiceros para proteger a la “humanidad”. Charmed es una serie que lo tiene todo, magia, criaturas fantásticas (aquí entran los demonios también), comedia, drama, bastante acción y algunas otras cosas más.

I started watching this series when I was only 8 or 9 years old and you can imagine a kid watching witches using powers and fighting demons. I remember that when I watched an episode, it somehow made me connect with the series to a point that later when I started to play I would create a story in the best Charmed style. Something I also liked is that, despite the theme of fighting evil forces, it's not something grotesque or that causes a big negative impact on people, or at least that's my perspective. 

> Comencé a ver esta serie cuando tenia apenas unos 8 o 9 años de edad y se podrán imaginar a un niño viendo a brujas usando poderes y luchando contra demonios. Recuerdo que cuando veía un capítulo, de alguna forma me hacia conectar con la serie a un punto que luego cuando me ponía a jugar creaba una historia al mejor estilo de Charmed. Algo que también me gustaba es que, a pesar de la temática de lucha contra las fuerzas del mal, no es algo grotesco o que cause un gran impacto negativo en las personas o por lo menos es mi perspectiva.

What I have no doubt about is that this series represents the fantasy film genre very well, with a mix of reality that keeps your feet on the ground.

I think I could comment here on many, many series or movies that have touches of fantasy. We have Harry Potter, The Spiderwick Chronicles, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, The Chronicles of Narnia, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, The Neverending Story, Avatar, The Golden Compass, Stars Wars, etc, not to mention animated movies. There are really a lot of movies or series that are a faithful example of the fantasy genre, audiovisual content that allows you to accompany each protagonist on an adventure in a world where reality can be completely affected. 

> Creo que podría comentar aquí muchísimas series o películas que tienen toques de fantasía. Tenemos a Harry Potter, Las crónicas de Spiderwick, animales fantásticos y donde encontrarlos, Las crónicas de Narnia, Charlie y la fábrica de chocolate, La historia sin fin, Avatar, la brújula dorada, Stars Wars, etc, y esto sin mencionar las películas animadas. Realmente hay muchísimas películas o series que son un ejemplo fiel al genero fantasía, contenido audiovisual que te permite acompañar a una aventura a cada protagonista en un mundo donde la realidad puede verse afectada por completo.

As I mentioned at the beginning, I also love the genre of science fiction, I am a lover of technology and science, and in a way all SCI-FI content arouses my curiosity about the technological future to come or about what we can achieve as human beings. There is a lot of audiovisual content that represents this genre and I hope that the 2 contents that I am going to select are according to your tastes and if you have not seen any of this, you have content added to your list.

> Como comenté al principio, también me encanta el genero de ciencia ficción, soy amante de la tecnología y la ciencia, y en cierta forma todo el contenido SCI-FI me despierta la curiosidad sobre el futuro tecnológico que vendrá o sobre lo que podremos llegar a realizar como seres humanos. Hay muchísimo contenido audiovisual que representa esta genero y espero que los 2 contenidos que voy a seleccionar estén acorde con tus gustos y sino has visto nada de esto, tengas contenido agregado a tu lista.

I will start with Matrix because for me this trilogy is already a cult for people who love computer systems. Since its first film, cinematically speaking, it contributed a lot to the industry, the bullet time effect that they achieved by placing cameras around a target, caused a sensation and at the time caused an incredible impact. 

> Comenzare con Matrix porque para mí esta trilogía ya es culto para las personas que amamos los sistemas informáticos. Desde su primera película, hablando a nivel cinematográfico, aporto muchísimo a la industria, el efecto de tiempo de bala que lograron colocando cámaras alrededor de un objetivo, causo muchísima sensación y en la época causaba un impacto increíble.

Leaving that aside, Matrix immerses us in a story where humanity is virtually subjugated by machines that feed on the energy produced by humans. As it usually happens in this genre, there is a group of rebels who are fighting against the machines, but their main strength is inside the Matrix. The Matrix is a virtual environment, a world created based on pure programming where humans believe they are living their lives, but everything happens directly in their minds. A chosen one emerges, a being able to control the Matrix at will and thus stop the machines.

> Dejando de lado eso, Matrix nos sumerge una historia donde la humanidad es sometida virtualmente por maquinas y se alimentan de la energía que producen los humanos. Como suele suceder en este género, hay un grupo de rebeldes que esta luchando contra las maquinas, pero su principal fuerza esta dentro de la Matrix. La Matrix es un entorno virtual, un mundo de creado a base de programación pura donde los humanos creen que están viviendo sus vidas, pero todo ocurre directamente en sus mentes. Surge un elegido, un ser capaz de controlar la Matrix a su antojo y con esto detener a las maquinas.

Matrix for me has it all, a good script (perhaps here some do not agree with me), good performances, Keanu Reeves, brutal battle sequences, exquisite slow motion effects, black suits like you've never seen and without leaving aside the great Morpheus glasses. It is a good movie to get into the world of science fiction and has a beautiful character named Trinity.

> Matrix para mi lo tiene todo, un guion bueno (quizás aquí algunos no concuerden conmigo), buenas actuaciones, keanu Reeves, secuencias de batalla brutales, efectos de cámara lenta exquisitos, trajes negros como nunca los has visto y sin dejar de lado las grandiosas gafas de Morfeo. Es una buena película para adentrarse en el mundo de la ciencia ficción y cuenta con una hermosa personaje llamada Trinity.

I had to mention this movie, it is a classic in the film industry that also innovated with special effects. I attribute the success of this movie, despite all the good things that can be said about the cinematographic aspects, is that it came out at a time when pop culture dominated a lot. That I think gave a great boost to this film that is already considered a classic, or at least for me.

> Si o si tenia que mencionar esta película, es un clásico en la industria cinematografía que también innovo con efectos especiales. Yo atribuyo el éxito de esta película, pese a todo lo bueno que se pueda decir en cuanto a los aspectos cinematográficos, es que salió en una época donde la cultura pop dominaba mucho. Eso creo que le dio un impulso grandioso a esta película que ya es considerada un clásico, o por lo menos para mí.

As for the thematic, we have a robot or Exterminator, who travels from the future to end the life of a person who can change that future. In the future, machines control everything and humans are on the verge of extinction. Can you imagine a super advanced robot coming from the future? How to fight him?

> En cuanto a la temática, tenemos a un robot o Exterminador, que viaja del futuro para acabar con la vida de una persona que puede cambiar ese futuro. En el futuro las maquinas lo controlan todo y los humanos están al borde de la extinción. ¿imagina a un robot super avanzado que viene del futuro? ¿Cómo luchar contra él?

For that reason I loved this movie, but especially 2, where I see a Sarah Connor a little more mature and confident and I must say that Linda Hamilton gave an impeccable performance. You should see the movie and tell me if I'm wrong.

I could tell you about many more movies such as Artificial Intelligence, Back to the Future, Robocop, ET, Tron, Interstellar, Ultraviolet and many, many more movies or mention series such as Travelers, The Mandalorian, Glith, 3%, etc. These two movies I mention are really a small fraction of how big the world of science fiction in cinema and television can be. We could even divide it into categories and mix it with other genres and get great works of art like A Clockwork Orange.

> Podría hablarles de muchísimas películas mas como Inteligencia artificial, Regreso al futuro, Robocop, ET, Tron, Interestelar, Ultravioleta y muchísimas películas mas o mencionar a series como Viajeros, The mandalorian, Glith, 3%, etc. Estas dos películas que menciono realmente son una pequeña fracción de lo grande que puede ser el mundo de la ciencia ficción en el cine la televisión. Podríamos hasta dividirlo en categorías y mezclarlo con otros géneros y obtener grandes obras de arte como La naranja mecánica.

Certainly, when it comes to movies or series, the first person who should like it is you. It is important to avoid getting carried away by the trend. Something that is true is that the quality of the performances, the music, the special effects and some other cinematographic aspects are present in higher quality in some movies and in others they are absent. The movies or series that I express here, are part of my personal choice more than of the critics of the experts. 

> Ciertamente, cuando se trata de películas o series, a la primera persona que le debe gustar es a ti. Es importante evitar dejarse llevar por la tendencia. Algo que es cierto es que la calidad de las actuaciones, la música, los efectos especiales y algunos otros aspectos cinematográficos están presentes en mayor calidad en algunas películas y en otras hacen falta. Las películas o serie que expreso acá, son parte de mi gusto personas mas que de las criticas de los expertos.
