Built to survive

I saw an argument on Twitter about whether 100 men can defeat 100 silverback gorillas in a confined space, and the short answer is no, while the long answer is yes, but we must remove the term "confined space" to make the long answer possible. In reality, we do not always understand the biological encoding that is built into us by default.

A human being is designed to be physically harmless: no nails, no venom, no poison, no retractable claws, nothing. There are no long cannines, no curved back teeth and all that. In fact, we are probably the least physically imposing mammals that have ever existed.

In front of a one-ton silverback, we weigh between 50 and 120 kilograms or more for a full-grown adult, and a single blow from a silverback can crush a human spine. However, this is where the Creator decides to give us an edge rather than level the playing field.

The edge we have wipes out all competition, and this is where we win the battle. It's brain VS brawn, and brain wins in this occasion, an advanced brain for that matter

## An advanced brain: the game changer

Human beings are complex, the brain we have destroys wherever potential any animal or ape has. So, even if Planet of the Apes *(a movie)* were to come true, or if king kongs invaded our solar system from whatever planet, the human race would suffer and millions would die, but these apes would be inevitably defeated, why?

Because humans are built to survive, without an incredible track record of endurance.

I got into this argument because I am constantly amazed by what the human mind can think of or achieve. I have seen a newborn baby grow and develop from day one, with ingenious attitudes and behavioral tendencies beginning as early as four months old.

Consider the evolution of man: progress, adaptation, and improvement. The capabilities of man-made technology, as well as why the human race has advanced so much.

A man's most valuable asset is his ability to solve problems, study patterns, understand complex situations, learn, unlearn, and relearn while improving with each experience.

## The mind alone is a weapon

We are not designed to be physical killing machines, but humans are the largest meat consumers and the most prolific killers of both land and animal species, despite the fact that we lack the physical characteristics of natural killers.

A human being can be lethal when they want to, causing mortal destruction to their fellow humans and other species, even though our bite force per square inch is not greater than that of a goat.

## The longer we stay in the battle...

Longevity is one of the most important characteristics of a man. The more we can survive a fatal problem, the faster they will find solutions, cures, remedies, or safety measures.

This is simply to say that the worst thing that could happen to humanity is a plague that is most likely airborne, not the COVID type, but a black swan event type of plague that travels at the speed of an airplane; however, even at this point, I believe that even if millions die, humanity will not be wiped out. The longer we survive, the faster we get to a solution.

## Survive

I'm a fan of post-apocalyptic TV show. Why? It reveals man's potential for endurance, as well as our creativity and approach to problem solving.

Man's survival instinct is embedded in our genetic code, which distinguishes us as a species. The desire for comfort and survival is the source of technological advancement. This is why I believe that no species, animal, alien, or ghoul can survive a "long game" with humans.

I totally agree with you, we are built to survive. We never know our full capabilities until we all faced with some dare situations and those instincts go into play. I have survived some situations that I’d ask myself how😂, after the whole event played out. The mind is just awesome. An entire world

If in this theoretical challenge, men have time to build weapons or traps, and, as you said, the "confined space" is removed or is large enough or has plenty of spaces to hide, then men would "win". But the rules of the challenge were different, and if they apply, men have no chance.

Every specie has a sort of advantage especially since they lack the emotional and mental intelligence to compete. Human beings looks completely powerless on the surface, but the brain and the mind is the underrated tool. 

I watch those post-apocalyptic series a lot and hopefully we don't get those types of plagues.

Humans not being as strong as animals but still getting ahead thanks to our way of thinking seems very true to me, its that capability of reasoning that gives us that hedge, if you think about how people continue to solve problems and overcome difficulties it's not because we're the strongest or anything like that but because our minds keep working and finding new ways to solve situations. Seeing how we change things around us with our inventions and how we deal with situations that arise is sometimes surprising, each brain is an entire universe of ideas, all that learning and then having to relearn new things when everything changes shows that we never really stop moving forward, I've always thought that the best thing about being human is that we can turn the script around when things get tough and somehow make it work even when there seems to be no way out.

is Planet of the apes not enough reference? it's community of apes vs humans HAHA. But 1 gorilla vs 100 men and the volunteers are either MMA fighters, boxers, or Military men. No weapons, just bare fists. 



I do guess they can beat a gorilla up. But there's no guarantee for 100% survival for the humans. 



But having 100 vs 100? naaaaah humans will be eradicated for sure.

Well that's another angle. Whether it's MMA fighters or regular people. I think the adult man that's healthy can defend themselves when it comes to the battle to survive and stay alive. 

That's the point of the post, the longer we survive, the more we come up with a strategy or solution.

Very very true! I think that's also the best edge to have against all the other creatures we share the Earth with. Our minds are more capable than we'd like to admit, similar to the saying that we're using only a fraction of our brain. But when it's out of neccesity, such as survival, these ingenious qualities reveal themselves and help us defy odds that no other creature could defy under normal circumstances.

You got it right, the ability to think and adapt makes us the most dangerous species on the planet. Humanity will survive because it's encoded in our DNA, and I believe that we will start to move onto other worlds beyond our home planet. Eventually Mars will be terraformed, and near light speed or greater will be figured out and onto other stars or planets. Too bad we won't be around to see it!

Technically the human brain is easily the biggest edge, it's a no-brainer. No specie can be able to advance and adapt like humans have been able to. This is why other species or beings can be kept in confinement by us. Infact, if humans can keep their fellow humans in slavery, it shows how dominant the human specie is. 

> Eventually Mars will be terraformed, and near light speed or greater will be figured out and onto other stars or planets. 

I believe this too, and we can see that technology is already advancing to these levels. Unfortunately like you've said, it's just for the future generations and we won't be here.
