Controlling The Future You Fear

The future is a scary place and this is because we cannot control or predict it. We can plan towards it based on the underlying circumstances of the present or the tools we currently have at hand.

Time and change are advantageous to man because our growth and development are dependent on them, but we have a fixated nature, it's difficult to change with the speed of time because we have plans towards a stable job.

we need to be able to earn a specific amount of money for a certain period to own a house, buy a car, have insurance, better health care, and so many other things because we're fixated in our nature it's difficult for us to destroy the plans we've built in the past because newer and exciting prospects might exist in the future.

**However, the disadvantage of not aiming for solidity is that it'll be difficult to have a goal and work towards it.** Some people are waiting for better opportunities that might be more lucrative than they see around them and while they're waiting for this, they might miss out on the opportunity to build a stable life. Because our time is limited, people aim to make meaning of that limited time.

Even with how limited our time might be, we still cannot place a figure on that limitation, hence we can say uncertainty makes us seek solidity and stability.

**Why?**

**Stability mitigates any turbulence that the future might bring.** The plan to have a fail-safe or an emergency fund is because we do not want to be thrown off guard when our boats are rocked. So we set plans in motion to act as an anchor in a particular direction.

### Choosing Stability...

Then, we still have to plan for when we might be inactive, thereby activating the retirement plans we've set in place. The truth is that everyone gets to that time when they would no longer be productive because it's a stage in life that is inevitable, it's either we throw a form of control on it, or we let it determine where our lives might swing to.

Another reason why we choose stability is fear and the willingness to act is a ripple effect. We're scared of this in different ways. Especially when we cannot predict the degree or the extent of the impact on our lives. Placing a figure on a real-life issue makes it easier to decipher, predict or control. We tend to fear what we cannot control and this happens for so many reasons.

My aunty worked in a company for 20 years and during her productive years she was earning big salaries, but three years before she was laid off, she actually saw the future, the job was becoming too unfriendly and people around her were getting sacked.

She began to envisage the end of the road, however, she couldn't place the exact date when she'll get sacked but then she knew she would, the uncertainty affected her productivity and it was difficult for her to stay hardworking since it wasn't going to matter anymore anytime soon.

Uncertainty opens up a query of possibilities. Knowing that your income might stop one day even before it stops is a great level of awareness, it might suck and affect your present level of efficiency, but one thing is, we can never create equanimity without ruffling a few feathers.

### Allowing "THE" inevitable Interference

It's good to worry about the future, and it's also not good too but the reality of the situation is that these two situations Come with their separate advantages and disadvantages. However, seeking stability might not totally be the ultimate thing in life. It's good, it helps us to mitigate embarrassing circumstances, but because of fear, we might take rash decisions with an altruistic.

Sometimes we fail in life even when we have good intentions. But we cannot completely change our nature because of the level of degree of change occurring at the same time. In life, we try to prepare too much because we want to take charge of every situation in our lives, but because we're dealing with unsteady factors in life, might get disappointed even if our plans are flawless and airtight.

At the end of the day, we might plan, but there's nothing wrong with letting life interfere because we cannot totally control the narratives.

The summary is "Life in uncertain no matter what you do." 🙄😉

Risks are always involved in all k8nd of decisions. Sometimes,  we take a decision in haste and it proves to be the best one. At other times, we take a very calculated decision and it just turns upside down.

I think the fear about future is protective as far as it remains in healthy limits. We can utilise our present opportunities in the best way  in order to cater the uncertainties of future.

Just like the saying "life(uncertainty) is what hits us while we're busy making plans" (I might have paraphrased a little but I'm sure you get my point). 

I feel like sometimes these uncertainties leaves us with hint(s) and gives us space to make plans, but for majority the space always seem not enough and that alone is good enough to put us in our feelings, it definitely will allow fear of the future and in no time our efficiency will fade with time but, I strongly believe that if we could just "at least prepare for things that we know might happen. It makes it a little bit NOT scary." Like @thecuriousfool as mentioned. Then again, income diversity might a good way to fight financial uncertainty but sure not a permanent solution.

This can be true on some occasions but only if you're actually conscious enough to notice it. In reality I think we cannot escape these uncertainties because they're part of our reality, but then we can make the most of it even if it's not advantageous.

Stability gives us confidence about how life is to a certain extent, it makes us feel as though we are in control of some things in our life if not all, and that is why we are drawn to it.

True, that thing call future is a scary one. I mean never in my life would I have thought thatt there will be a time when people in the world would actually stay at home and not work for months. It seems unbelievable but COVID-19, made us know that it is possible.
COVID-19 is a prove of one of the uncertainties in life. Uncertainty makes life more colourful, I mean it shows that life is not black and white but has different shades of colour.

Despite knowing all these, our human nature will always make us seek for some sort of solidity and stability, I feel as though it is embedded in our DNA.

Things change over time and I don't really blame anyone for choosing stability. However, I always think it's better to diversify your income sources. The pandemic was a great reminder to a lot of people when they lost their jobs. It's the main reason why I wouldn't mind being financially free with multiple income sources so I can have more options.
