The school was the first agent of socialization where I learned the concept of class. Rich kids were always quick to remind you of your class, just to put you in your place. 

Parental affluence was something kids bragged about, so in almost everything you did, one way or another they always had a way of reminding you that your father wasn't rich, but theirs was. It wasn't difficult to tell.

 The rich kids came to school in private cars or school buses, they had different uniforms, they were always the first to buy books, and they had special affiliations with the principal who gave them special treatment because of the status of their parents.



 it was always easy to tell whose parents were rich or comfortable and those that weren't. While we had folks like me who collectively enjoyed the basic things of life, being in a mixed school of all classes of people often reminded us of those things we never had. 

One of the things about being kids was the Innocent hope we hard work is tantamount to a bright future. (We learned the hard way). Kids back in the day weren't sensitive to things like broke-shaming their peers, because they weren't sensitized enough.

 but this didn't mean that we didn't have good kids, I had this kid who gave me her lunch money when I lost mine, she was 9 and I was about 10 while this gesture is what you might consider ordinary. I was wired as a kid to remember it forever.


### Intent Money Matters More




 As kids, we were wired to have retentive memories that might end up becoming an ingredient to building our personalities, good or bad.

 That's what people often remember things like abuse, rejection, or indifference towards them.

 Kids have memories of the first time some good things happened to them and while they might not have aged enough to reciprocate, the gesture or actions always remains with them and form part of the adult life.


 As a toddler, I never played football or sports, nobody really could tell why I didn't have that energy, but deep down, I knew I was flawed somehow, some of the kids I knew would easily tell it to my face and because of that bad energy. 

I learned to be secluded as a kid, I did more thinking than talking, I was more passive than active, and it was mainly one of the reasons why I grew up with just a handful of friends. 

That wasn't the only thing I lacked, because my family was always moving, the home was hellish, and I was back on the streets, friends with people who smoke tobacco and drank heavily, while I was lucky not to go into drinking. 

 
> *I learned that the world is not completely filled of people who wants to berate you for what you are*


 I grew older to understand that people are now more compassionate, back in the day, psychological education wasn't there.

 I promised myself that I was going to have some of the things I didn't have as a child, despite the odds never favoring me. This is the risk of living. 

Every day, dogged people wake up, plunge themselves into dangerous situations, never minding the risks. I was such people. I did a lot of 9 to 5 as a teenager, I was never really concerned about the risk, the health challenges, or the hazard. 



### Life is colorful with affordability

Apart from the fact that I had to pay bills, I felt that life will never be colorful when one can not at least live decently and activate at least 50% of your wants and needs.

 Living in deprivation as a young person might make you outrageously yearn for some of the things you never had as a child. While this can be a motivating factor (which is how it happened for me) it can also lead people to do the wrong things for money, so it's a double-edged sword.



> **Tough Times Might Make You Consider Tougher Choices**

 Some days ago, my younger brother was saying that he was tired of the business he owned and he wanted to close it down and go and apply for a job somewhere, he felt a 9 to 5, will take away that sense of responsibility, and he won't have to the burdened with loss and the guilt that comes with it. 

(being called an entrepreneur feels good, but "being" an entrepreneur is hard)




The "hustler's state of mind" is difficult, it takes psychological doggedness to get into that frame of mind. Tough times make or mar people, but good times, hardly harden people. As a kid, I promised myself I was going to buy everything I lacked (except for ill health and lack of family time I didn't have), 

while I'm still far away from the realization of the things I promised myself, remembering those things as a kid puts me in that "hustler's state of mind"
