No one sets out to spend wrongly, in fact a lot of people plan to spend rightly but then there are so many factors that makes them overspend. One of those things is spending on things you feel might satisfy a need, a want, or a desire. Miscalculation is one of the problems with people who have little resources but many needs. 


Sometimes they try to be too economical and end up spending even more because their choices cannot eschew enough quality to actually guarantee longevity. Another thing is trying to kill two birds with one stone. This is often very popular with a lot of people I know. Now, trying to kill two birds with one stone might mean, spending on a commodity that can take care of more than one need. This is economical by all standard and very good. 


Sometimes scarcity makes you want to get the best out of your resources and rightly so too, but then, there's a downside. You can be lucky or terribly unlucky. When I was younger, I bought and wore second grade cloths, we called it #(okrika)*. They were very cheap and affordable, and it catered for the needs of people who wanted to take care of "clothing" needs without breaking their pockets, which can of course affect monies budgeted on shelter or feeding.

 Now, these seconded graded cloths could be very good; better than first graded or new fabric and ready-made cloths, but sometimes they could turn out really worse and at the end of the day, you'll need to spend again to buy new clothes, meaning that spending *"less"* doesn't always mean buying *"best"*



People spend with different motive, we have those who spend to impress, those who spend to express, *(needs, wants)* those who aim to be economical but ends up spending more than they aimed. One of the reasons why people are stagnant is not even because they're not investing, it's because they're spending amiss, either knowingly or unknowingly.

 It's way worse when it is unknowingly. An inflating market makes it even difficult for people to spend wisely. Nowadays, the market feels bloated, good and terrible products are going for expensive prices. Gone are those days when quality products are always expensive. Nowadays, people need to discern between what is quality and what is not.

In Nigeria, this is a huge challenge, fake products are passing for quality and sometimes people are deceived into buying what is designed to look quality. At the end of the day, this phenomenon makes people spend wrongly because they're aiming to satisfy a need. This of course is an external factor which is not controllable.


 It might turn out that people aren't just the only reasons why they're not minimal. Sometimes some extraordinary forces comes into play and leaves people with no choice. In another scrutiny, budgeting hardly works in a flexible market such as the Nigerian markets, where prices constantly changes on a daily basis at the discretion of the wholesaler and retailer for their own personal greed. 


So, it can be intentional to spend wrongly, however it can also be unintended as well, nevertheless it doesn't change the fact that whether it was right or wrong, we still have to bear the consequence of these choices. Nevertheless, being constantly aware makes it even better.


 Having less resources can be problematic, even worse is when mismanagement happens as a result of wrong choices. This makes a lot of people wonder; they have perfect intentions to spend rightly, but then they end up spending rather wrongly and now need to spend even more to take care of that initial need. This can be caused by internal factors and more of external factors which I'll be discussing in my next post.
