<hr>

How many times have you picked up a notepad or your phone and started writing down your thoughts without thinking about what the title would be? After about 1,000 words, you realize *"Oh, I do not even have a title yet."*

When you write from your own experiences, you become the main character in your story. Humans: we are not all fancy or perfect; the majority of what we see online is edited versions of ourselves.

## Mode-creator

So, when we are in full creative mode, there are no organizational patterns in how we act, think, or react. However, we prefer to appear organized and fancy for the sake of evaluation.

Most people are the polar opposite of who they are in their closets, because we want to appear tidy on the outside while being our true selves on the inside.

> I am still talking about titles.

Yes, titles represent what we want to be known for, how people want to remember us, and how we want to leave a lasting impression. A book's cover can be an exaggerated representation of what the book actually is. It happens frequently on Hive.

You see some post titles with some crazy grammatical flex, only to be disappointed by the content, or the creator simply wants to spam some fancy new words they have just learned on their post title.

## Titles & Identity

It reminds me of how some people claim to have ADHD or OCD simply because they have a headache. They most likely have no idea what ADHD is, but because it is a new word or they have only recently learned about the medical condition, they want to use it on themselves for the sake of fanciness.

Titles are intended to cover identities. Most of the time, I do not look at the title of a post before opening and reading it; whether the title is dull or not, I know the creator is a good creator based on the history of the posts they have created over the years.

For a long time, I stopped discussing my medical conditions or personal issues. I was recently talking to someone on Hive, and I told them about what has been going on with me over the last two years, and they wondered why I had not mentioned it before.

I do not want to be defined by my illness, condition, or life issues. Except for the fact that I want to be known as that guy who occasionally talks about God and Jesus, and how I have found a new life through Christ, I do not want to create an interesting title of "that illness creator guy," instead, I just want to be something different that you can not predict based on my title alone.

> Do not get me wrong; titles are fancy.

.....and many creators spend a lot of time deciding on the right vocabulary, grammar, and scope for their titles. This has led me to believe that creators with fancy titles are prompted to create.

It means they need time to sit, reflect, analyze, and mentally prepare themselves before they can create. This is not me. When I pick up something to write about, I am always able to create, not because I have to, but because I can.

In fact, writing my titles takes less than a minute; I do not enjoy it, which is why, out of spontaneity, the title may only reflect one paragraph in the content; this is how you recognize an experiential creator.

## Guilty

Over the years, I have been guilty of consuming content with good images and content depth; I usually ignore content with grand titles because they make me feel "ewwww" whenever I see them.

It is safe to say that I judge a book by its cover, and I admit it. This means that I am repulsed by what I do as well, but my personality has evolved to the point where I do not immediately relate to content that lacks soul, humanity, or realness.

Perhaps it is the state of my life, the things I am going through, or the lifestyle I am leading. Every day we want something different. I am not a fan of being neat on the outside while unkempt on the inside; it is either you are this or that, and the genuineness that reflects from the inside to the outside appeals to me.

As much as I know that titles and pictures could be clickbait, I end up clicking them most of the time. It makes me wonder though because the first part of the battle is to get people to view your content. I think everyone sees different things as different things appeal to them.

I understand what you mean about titles, I often only give them one because I feel like it's something you have to do, whenever I write based on what I've experienced or felt it comes much easier and feels more like my own not something I've made up, most people try really hard with these titles that seem super complicated but honestly the story or what you want to say is way more important. Sometimes I don't even think about the title until I'm done and it's fine you just have to get the words out first, what you said about being real instead of sounding perfect if you worry too much about how it sounds you end up not saying anything real.

You're right, when one worries too much about how they sound then they'll end up not sounding real or coming out real. Titles are inevitable. We cannot leave posts or contents without titles. In the real world our titles are what most people firstly see before they even identify us.

You know that first paragraph is totally relatable to me. I open my notebook on my phone, and I write about my thoughts, without going back to edit any typos or whatsoever, I just pour out everything I have on my mind. Then maybe days later, I'd go back and make corrections on the typos not the whole expression thingy lol( I don't share those on Hive coz they're quite personal)

I agree with you, and with chat gpt helping so many people with topic ideas, I'm not surprised everyone has a perfect outside but the content is empty and imperfect

Haha, yeah, I can relate with your style of creating. In my own case, I try as much as possible to edit and correct typos and remove redundant statements, cliches and thoughts. However even though I still do all that, it still carries a lot of flaws after posting it

Share them with me, I promise to keep it a secret.

Chatgpt ahhh yes, I even forgot that this can be used and it appears all AI-ish and no originality to it

I often hesitate on a title at the start because the end result can turn out to be different from what I intended. I suppose a more professional way to write would be to outline my idea and then stick to the outline. But my writing tends to be spontaneous. I'm thinking through the idea as I'm writing. I often edit to make the writing flow better. But it's only then that I am able to come up with a title.

Similar to what you wrote, I hesitate to answer when people ask what I do. I feel like a title doesn't match the content of my life.

Yes. Sometimes a title cannot describe, as it's only a phrase or an idea. Sometimes there's a whole lot to cover, and a title cannot do that.

I like your writing style/pattern. Like me, most times I just write and then I do the editing, and then make appropriate adjustments as I finish.

Somedays, this is exactly what I do. I write the post first before coming up with a title or section titles for jt. I feel that starting with the title sometimes is a limiting factor because it restricts what I need to focus or write about. I often see titles as merely an aspect of who we are as a person, and throughout life, some of them do change when we've outgrown that part of ourselves.

A title at the beginning is truly restrictive and sometimes you cannot express yourself beyond it (title). The thoughts can run wild, and sometimes after all that imaginative processes, you still don't have a definitive title.

Yes, that's also a common occurrence for me. Finding a title for the post after most of not all of the words have been written. I tend to just re-read the post until I find a set of words that resonate and make them as the title.

Some titles are nothing but click bait, that's the world we live in sadly. I often don't spend much time on titles and they are often the last step for me in writing. Sometimes I start with one idea in mind and end up someplace absolutely different. Maybe it's senility kicking in...

I think you do a great job in your writing, and focus on initial point. Ever now and again you slip in some click bait titles, but not too often!

Yes, I guess we do that often. Some of your posts are like that. I think it's because we cannot entirely summarize a 700 word post with one sentence, so we probably just go for the most prevalent paragraph or idea and choose a title from it.

> Ever now and again you slip in some click bait titles, but not too often!

Yeah I do that sometimes for the purpose of entertainment and the fun of it, and sometimes I do when to attract title-driven consumers.

Then there are some people who are talented writers by nature, it just natural and easy for them. I don't have that gift, though I've known people who do. They can write all day without even having to think about it! Then again, they wouldn't be able to do what I did professionally for years. We all have our own strong points and weaknesses!

I'm just trying to keep the creative juices flowing, some days are easier than others. But that's how life works!

RE: The art of experiential creating
I love how you started with something as simple as titles and connected it to how we present ourselves to the world. It is just that most of us are different behind closed doors, but we try to keep up a β€œclean” image outside.

Sometimes, while writing, the thoughts just flow, and the title becomes the least important part. What really matters is the honesty in the content, and you brought that out so well here.

That part where you talked about not wanting to be known by your illness is intriguing, and I think it is better that way. We shouldn't look like our problem, although it is good you let people know at time as they might have a way to help out.

Thank you, I have been that type of creator: always trying to carve out similarities from one subject to another. Sometimes I get it wrong and sometimes it comes out well. Some of us tries to keep it clean on the outside, because we probably live in a judgemental world.

> That part where you talked about not wanting to be known by your illness is intriguing, and I think it is better that way. We shouldn't look like our problem, although it is good you let people know at time as they might have a way to help out.

80% of the times, I make decisions, have people look at me from the POV of the illness and complications. While I want to break down sometimes and just lament and cry with a post, nowadays I just feel there's no need.. crying doesn't take pain away, so I just want to leave everything behind..

Thanks for the comment
