 <hr> I saw a video of someone on Facebook who said they were battling stage 4 cancer. I am not a medical doctor, but I know that those stages of cancer (depending on location) are serious. However, they appeared to be in good health, with no shaved hair to indicate chemotherapy, no weight loss, no skin color changes, and so on. The surprising thing is that this person was exercising in the hospital room, making tiktok videos, and doing a variety of other enjoyable activities. Perhaps they believed their doctor was working on a cure, or perhaps it was a more realistic hope in God's miracles, or perhaps they had given up hope. However, when people give up on life due to terminal illnesses, it is difficult to see them doing fun things. They probably want to get their house in order, take care of a few things, and start preparing for the inevitable day. However, many people reacted differently to the various battles of life. When you have been through so much hurt and pain, the mind seems to rewire itself to feel numb the more pain you have to endure. ## What's impossible with modern medicine? Modern medicine generally states that some things are possible while others are not. The liver is said to be able to regenerate and heal itself, but once damaged, the nephrons in the kidney cannot heal. So, if almost every part of the body can heal, why is it only the kidneys that can't? The truth is that science is learning to understand the human body, which is a vastly complex machine that is more complex than current technology, despite advances in research, technology, and medicine. Some medical condition management was discovered unintentionally rather than engineered in the lab; however, I believe humanity is 100 to 200 years away from discovering more elusive answers. In my opinion, kidneys can heal; we just have not discovered how. HIV was a death sentence 50 years ago, but not anymore. Some diagnoses are intended to be fatal and severe, based on current medical knowledge. However, it is not uncommon for people to recover from situations that were previously thought to be fatal. According to statistics, there are people who should not be alive due to their medical conditions, but they are; to modern medicine, this makes no sense, demonstrating that the human body remains a mystery that is difficult to fully comprehend. This isn't to say the human body can beat all odds, but it can beat some odds and the reasons why it can, even when it's supposed to be dead and nonfunctioning is still not completely understood. The advancement of modern medicine means that there is always an answer or cure somewhere, but we have not found it yet, as many things remain impossible at the moment. > So, what hope do you have when there is nothing to tap into? *An interesting question that varies* This is the same question I asked myself when I saw the stage 4 cancer warrior. It did not appear that they were spiritual people, so I do not see any hope that could have been drawn from the Almighty God. My conclusion is that they may believe they will be able to recover against all odds. Perhaps they are keeping their hopes alive because failing to do so would result in them falling into a rabbit hole of depression and losing their mind. Perhaps they cry when their phone is turned off and choose to use their channel to encourage others with the same diagnosis. ## Medical Depression People do not realize that medical depression is the most severe type of depression. They believe it is money, but in reality, it is not. People can live enjoyable lives without money, but being unable to live a healthy life in a chronic state is the most severe form of depression, and others are simply not bad enough. So having hope in the face of adversity is one of the most powerful things you can do. There is no one as strong as someone who is forced to choose between strength and depression. People thrive when they have a variety of options in life, but we struggle when we have few options. For me, my hope is in God. I think it's tough to maintain hope when there is so much uncertainty, but I do think that it's better to keep up that hope. We don't know where technology will lead us, but things can always change so long as you keep working at it.

Just like you, my hope is in God. That's because I have seen Him come through for me over and over again. Why i would not down play what doctors are doing, there's just limit to what they can do. My son fell sick in the month of March and it affected his brain which resulted in him having different complications, one of which is blindness and the doctor told me he might never get to see again. I turned to God in prayers and before we were discharged from the hospital he started seeing again and most of the doctors were surprised.

Thank God for your son. Yes, sometimes some prognosis, outlook and symptoms makes doctors gives their own opinion based on medical fact, but we all know that they can actually be wrong. This is life. The human body is still far more advanced than modern medicine. Blindness scares people, especially if it's permanent, but I'm glad he didn't have to go through that. It would have been depressing, I mean, chronically depressing.. This is the type of testimony I was thinking about when I started writing this post.

Great write-up. The human body keeps to remain mysterious to many scientists and that's why a full proof cure for cancer hasn't been found. However, just like you I believe it's just a matter of time before we finally figure out how to cure all areas of the body. I think even with the level of medical and technological advancement we have, modern medicine still doesn't understand the human body to an extent, but maybe as the years go by, all these will change. Sometimes, I just feel the way some doctors present the result to someone having complications, they make it feel that's the end thereby instilling more fear in the person and for that individual who isn't strong enough to activate their hope, they start to believe death is the next thing. Whereas there are other doctors that will make it feel like there's nothing to worry about even when it's life threatening and then you see such an individual's hope raises high. We all have our different ways of how we come to embrace ourselves amidst life's challenges but when we've come to the understanding that our hope lies in God, then, I don't think there's need to feel down or depressed because that alone will add to the problem which will deprive us from enjoying our lives even if death is certain in the end.

I know what you mean. My aunt's closest friend died during childbirth because the doctor told her something really negative, and she couldn't mentally take it. I don't remember what the doctor told her, it's been over 10 years now. Yeah. Some doctors can make it seem like it's the end of the world, however some of them are probably just saying things the way they see it. Some doctors don't care about the mental health of their patient, so they just say what they need to say and they don't bother.

Happiness is to an extent a decision. You can decide to be happy even in pitiful conditions and maintain hope when things look very bad. With immunotherapy cancers that were death sentences will be mostly curable within the next twenty to thirty years. Aging will likely be genetically removed from the human race within two hundred years. Too late for us, but we are on the verge of immortality in a healthy young, disease free body. We will also be able to grow new parts for a person in labs very soon. In Japan they have figured out how to regrow human teeth. Lots and lots of cool things are coming down the line. Depression can be very pathologic as well. Some people even have genetic traits of depression that are hard to overcome. Hopefully we'll figure those problems out too... Ernest Hemmingway and his daughter both committed suicide, genetic depression at it's finest. I hope you're feeling well, always keep that hope alive!

Yes, I know it's easy to be happy even in pitiable conditions. However I don't know if that the case for terminal conditions. I mean imagine someone who thought they had a perfect life only to be hit with the diagnosis of stage 4 cancer. This year my cousin's gave birth to a child even though she's had heart failure for over 3 years now, it was surprising she gave birth without and surgical produce. I wondered how, and it felt intriguing. This made me understand that the body is capable of far more than we know. You're right about depression being psychological, but most of the cases I know is a result of chronic issues that won't give a person some moment of relief. I've heard people commit suicide, it's saddening that sometimes people just wants to end it, rather than being part of this world.
