*This post is not about the US elections, but I like to use it is an analogy to drive home what I want to say*

It is Election Day in the United States, but why should we care? Because we are mostly concerned with crypto and nothing else. Although I know many people here who are US citizens or who live in the US and are eligible to vote. 


I am sure there are those who are patriotic enough to want to elect a better leader for their country, as well as those who do not care who wins. However, I believe that for some US citizens, it is simply a matter of curiosity. I asked someone who they believe is better on every front, regardless of crypto sentiment, and they said Trump.


 In reality, the average American has nothing to gain from whichever candidate wins. Most people who go to great lengths to support politicians do so because they stand to benefit. Gary Gensler, for example, will be secretly campaigning for Kamala Harris; his job and crypto witch hunt are secure, and they will continue to be funded if she wins.


 Many politicians are going to great lengths to support one person or another in order to secure something very important, rather than caring about what is best for America. In my opinion, the two candidates are not really good; some people are just choosing between the lesser evil and nothing else, others are campaigning for and against abortion, possibly hospital owners, and so on, and some are simply campaigning for cryptocurrency. 

 Perhaps if there were a third political party, or if the United States did not have a two-party system. My point is that everyone wants what they want, and we often act accordingly. 

## This is how it works on Hive. 

People follow those they follow for reasons other than content creation or being good creators. I have seen creators who have been championed as Hive's best creators; we see them on the list of highest earners on a daily basis, but they are not always there because of their content.


 Hive's social front, which involves content creation, is one of its smallest components. The reason it appears to matter is due to the reward pool. The social front is the easiest to interact with, and that is what we sell. 


Hive is big in so many ways, the politics is another angle that many do not know about: how the DHF is disbursed, hive inflation, witness voting, and so many others. These are quite technical aspects, so the social front is easier and more tenable.


> So there are deeper reasons why people follow the people they do.

 I was talking to someone about the DHF today, and she seems to think it is a simple fix for reducing spending, but I went on to tell her that it is more of a political issue, and the voice of the stakeholders is more important.

> This is one of decentralization's Achilles heels. 

People do what they do for reasons best known to themselves. It is similar to choosing witness votes; most people do so for sentimental reasons rather than because a witness is doing a good or bad job; personal preferences account for 80% of the time. 




We mostly follow individuals rather than the content they create. We sometimes find ourselves enjoying the content of people we like. It's like marrying a person and accepting all the baggages and advantages that comes with them. 


For example, if you have a favorite user, you are unlikely to unfollow them simply because they created one piece of content that you dislike, because you have come to regard them as your favorite creator. I have followers who follow me back. For us, it is just strict Hive business with no close-ups or personal interactions, but for others, things are slightly different. 


> In fact, I believe I prefer it this way. 

For a while, I stopped giving people who asked for my WhatsApp contact information because I believe they can communicate with me via Discord or with me. It takes more than just saying "HI" to be friends with people, so we can call ourselves acquaintances and support each other on the surface, but nothing more, because we already know why we are here. 





I remember speaking with someone who had a Curation project about the unfair downvotes I was receiving from one of his curators, and they simply told me that they could not do anything about it. Why? It was because he was friends with this person and wanted to stand in solidarity with him, rather than checking to see if I was making the correct claim. 


Politics on Hive is the same as in reality. Just as it is in the United States, web2 and other web3 spaces. It won't change anytime soon, and it's even worse when there's decentralization
