Today I saw a movie that I couldn't understand, and I find it interesting to make a couple comments about it.

 This movie is called A Mouthful of air, normally I don't know what to expect from movies and I always go with an open mind, and that was the case, I always read the synopsis to have some information, which by the way is a novel.  But it says like this:


"The books from kind, warm, best-selling author Julie Davis deal with unlocking childhood fears, but she has yet to unlock the dark secret that has haunted her own life. However, when her second child is born, events occur that bring that secret to the fore, and with it, a crushing, powerful battle to survive."

Hoy vi una película que no lograba entender, y me parece interesante hacer varios comentarios al respecto.

Esta película se llama A Mouthful of air, normalmente no sé que esperar de las películas y siempre voy con una mente abierta, y así fue el caso, siempre leo las sinópsis para tener algo de información, que por cierto es una novela. Pero dice así: 

"Los libros de la amable, cálida y exitosa autora Julie Davis tratan de desvelar los miedos de la infancia, pero aún tiene que descifrar el oscuro secreto que ha perseguido su propia vida.  Sin embargo, cuando nace su segundo hijo, ocurren eventos que sacan a la luz ese secreto y, con él, una batalla aplastante y poderosa para sobrevivir."

I innocently thought oh, there's a secret... So it's a mystery?  But not really, when the film begins, it warns you that it is sensitive content for people who suffer from depression, so we can intuit a bit.

 *I want to clarify something, basically I am commenting all the data of the movie, so it is a total spoiler.*

 In the film they show us Julie, we see her with her son who is just a few months old, we see that she is writing a book and from one moment to the next she receives a call from her sister-in-law who is on the way and in 10 minutes it will be coming, the next scene, although it is not explicit, is understandable and it is something strong, we see Julie go to the bathroom and the next thing we see is that she is holding a kind of scalpel and is crying, we only see that scene but we can understand the suicide message.

Yo, inocentemente pensé oh, hay un secreto... ¿Entonces es un misterio? Pero realmente no, cuando está empezando la película te advierte que es un contenido sensible para personas que sufren de depresión, por lo que podemos intuir un poco.

*Quiero aclarar algo, básicamente estoy comentados todos los datos de la película, así que es un spoiler total.*

En la película efectivamente nos muestran a Julie, la vemos con su hijo de apenas algunos meses de nacido, se ve que ella está escribiendo un libro y de un momento para el otro recibe una llamada de su cuñada que está en camino y en 10 minutos estará llegando, la siguiente escena aunque no es explícita se entiende y es algo fuerte, vemos a Julie irse al baño y lo siguiente que vemos es que sostiene una especie de bisturí y está llorando, solamente vemos esa escena pero podemos entender el mensaje del suicidio.

All this happens in the first minutes of the film, I was completely frozen to understand what was going to happen in the scene and from that moment as a spectator I wanted to know why.

 At that time it was just a cut and her sister-in-law arrived on time.  The following scenes of the film are of Julie going to the psychologist, also to the gynecologist and among other things.  We see that she has been prescribed antidepressants but she doesn't want to take them and she doesn't.

Todo esto sucede en los primeros minutos de la película, yo quedé completamente helada al entender lo que iba a suceder en la escena y desde ese momento como espectador quería saber el por qué.

En ese momento solo fue una cortada y la cuñada llegó a tiempo. Las siguientes escenas de la película son de Julie yendo al psicólogo, también al ginecólogo y entre otras cosas. Vemos que le han recetado antidepresivos pero ella no desea tomarlos y no lo hace.

We see her activities during her days become a constant fear, any activity causes her fear. We also see that there is a point where it focuses on Jolie's father and makes us suppose that something in the past with her father could be the cause of that depression, but the reality is that this is something inconclusive, and this is something that leaves many unknowns.

Vemos las actividades de sus días como se vuelven un miedo constante, cualquier actividad le provoca miedo. También vemos que hay un punto en dónde se enfoca en el padre de Jolie y nos hace suponer que algo en el pasado con su padre podría ser la causa de esa depresión pero la realidad es que eso es algo inconcluso, y esto es algo que deja muchas incógnitas.

Then she gets pregnant and this time it is with a girl, her husband always seems to be there for her but also insists that she take her medicines, she asked not to take them during the pregnancy and her husband understood her, when she finally gave birth her husband asked again to take the medicines again and she resisted, she said that she couldn't and that when she felt bad she would do it, but she never did.

Luego queda embarazada y está vez es de una niña, su esposo siempre parece estar ahí para ella pero también insistente de que tome sus medicinas, ella pidió no tomarlas durante el embarazo y su esposo la entendió, cuando por fin dió a luz su esposo le pidió nuevamente que retomara las medicinas y ella se resistía, ella decía que no podía y que cuando ella se sintiera mal lo haría, pero nunca lo hizo.

 Unfortunately she was never able to do it, the story ended and I couldn't understand what was the cause of her depression, I didn't know if her father had done something to her and the story was not so understandable, when I saw that there were still 10 minutes left and they were going over the credits eventually revealed that it was due to postpartum depression.

 No wonder I had not been able to understand, because I am a woman who has not gone through that situation, I am not a mother and it was not possible for me to clic and understand that this was the reason, she had two children, one after the other, so that she was trapped in that cycle of depression but she didn't let herself be helped either.  And an important fact is that 1 in 5 women suffer from postpartum depression, that's a pretty high number, I didn't know.  I hope that everyone can seek the help they need, allow themselves to help themselves.  It must have been really hard and very confusing.

Lamentablemente nunca pudo hacerlo, la historia terminó y yo no lograba entender cuál era la causa de su depresión, no sabía si su padre le había hecho algo y la historia no fue tan entendible, cuando ví que aún faltaban 10 minutos e iban por los créditos finalmente revelaron que se debía a la depresión postparto.

Con razón no había podido entender, porque yo soy una mujer que no ha pasado por esa situación, no soy madre y para mí no fue posible hacer click y entender que ese era el motivo, ella tuvo dos hijos, uno tras otro, por lo que estuvo atrapa en ese ciclo de depresión pero tampoco se dejó ayudar. Y un dato importante es que 1 de cada 5 mujeres sufre de depresión postparto, eso es un número bastante alto, yo no lo sabía. Espero que todas puedan buscar la ayuda que necesitan, se permitan ayudarse. Debió ser realmente duro y muy confuso.
