La muerte va trabajando nuestros huesos
con sus silentes filos, sus evadidos ecos.
Se va haciendo erosión en el cuerpo,
cual viento que pasa con su caliente aliento
por la faz a la intemperie de los cerros,
cual riachuelo que trae calladamente
sus aguas que derruyen las orillas.

La muerte, quizás sea la amistad
entre los trabajos y los días,
la verdad eterna rediviva
que el sabio Hesíodo legó.
Mientras haya vida
ella labora a diario
sin paga ni fama.

La muerte, obrera inefable,
construye los peldaños
de la escala inversa,
en descenso,
del punto
final.
