The corpus callosum is the single major pathway between the right and left hemispheres of the brain. Sometimes, a doctor will sever a patient's corpus callosum as a last resort to treat epileptic seizures. This is an effective treatment: some seizures are the result of interhemispheric electrical brainstorms; cutting the callosum localizes such storms to only one hemisphere, making them far less severe or even in some cases entirely unnoticeable to the subject
.
Side effects of this procedure? Preventing or inhibiting communication between the two hemispheres seems bound to end in catastrophe. As it turns out, there are almost no side effects: patients who have undergone a corpus callosotomy continue living normal lives with few, if any, noticeable changes to their behavior. But certain experiments can bring out behavior in 'split-brain' patients that can be described only as 'bizzare.'

Here's one: The experimenter maintains a normal conversation with the subject for a duration while monitoring the subject's brain activity. The experimenter observes that the subject's right hemisphere sustained two seizures during the conversation. Since the left hemisphere is responsible for language processing and speech, the subject's linguistic facility was unaffected by the seziures. At the end of the conversation, the experimenter asks the subject "How many seizures did you experience during our conversation?" Although the subject verbally reports being aware of no seizures whatsoever, the subject raises his left hand and holds up two fingers. The explanation, of course, is that the right brain controls the left side of the body. "

Is what you call "I" the only you residing in your body? is the consciousness still unified or is it disunified into two? or perhaps something in between with minimal communication between the two hemispheres which are competing for dominance over each other ?

source - https://www.reddit.com/r/philosophy/comments/pwlwi/brain_bisection_and_its_philosophical_implications/
