Lecturing Life #1 - The end of a short semester

*first time meeting this batch of Diploma in Public Relations students, well, I have 108 of them in total. I enjoyed teaching this class and to my surprise the attendance has been consistently great throughout the semester*

The end of a short semester aka 7 week semester is finally here! Today was their exam for my paper and their holiday begins but my busy period has just intentified because it involves a lot of marking! Marking is very tedious and stressful with the short time frame and I dread this part of being an educator.

I found myself saying a lot of "THINK, THINK, THINK" to my students during lecture and tutorials. I am that kind of educator where answers are not freely given instead, I drill them to think and guide them to think even more. It's easy to just provide them with answers and they would definitely be very happy about it however, what satisfiction is there for me as an EDUCATOR when I am not educating but just providing answers? Everything that they're doing in their daily lives does not really cause them to think further instead answers are always provided very handily, the least I could do is to get them to think.

There's a famous saying, “You give a poor man a fish and you feed him for a day. You teach him to fish and you give him an occupation that will feed him for a lifetime.”

I wholly believe in teaching them how to fish even though it takes up a lot of me to do so! My drive as an educator is to ensure my students go out a changed person (of course for the better) not only knowledge wise but also as a person. I would have failed as an educator if they come out with an A but act and behave like a jerk!

I am excited to get back to teaching after the semester break! Especially when the subject is something that I love! I always believe in enjoying what I do then my students will enjoy too! YAY! But for now... marking! marking! marking! then RESTING then preparing materials......
