Who understands blockchain?

The Rand Corporation (a consultancy group) just published a research paper on blockchain. (You can get your copy here: https://www.rand.org/pubs/research_reports/RR2223.html)

It describes challenges and opportunities relating to blockchain technology. Among the challenges is a lack of common understanding about what blockchain technology actually means.

I'd like to try something new:  Post your comments on whether you think you understand blockchain technology, and if so, what *your* favorite definitions are. Then read the research paper and think about whether you are well-positioned to take advantage of the opportunities. If you think they totally missed the mark on the opportunities, feel free to share that, too!

I will be powering up this week and will Upvote any insightful comments.
