“Qui Monsieur!” His nervous secretary said as he handed the report over the large cherrywood desk.

Eyeing the report slowly, bending the pages back with a rough flick of his hand, he then threw it on the desk and sat back, his large hands folded in front of him. As his brow wrinkled in agitation, he turned back to his secretary…

*“The Frigate Vaillente and cargo…lost! Thirty-three men dead!”* (Translated) He complained in sharp anger, *“Another twenty-four men of the outpost Quebec City- dead! Many more wounded!”*

As his anger mounted his face reddened and his secretary stepped slightly backward…

*“Merde!"* He cursed as he tighted his fist, *"Captain Bouchard?!”*
“Yes Sir, Filippe Bouchard…”
***”By God! The man is out of control!”*** The Commander yelled as he slammed his hand down on the table, *“You send this out today! Captain Filippe Bouchard is to return to France on the first ship available! He is relieved of all command until I get to the bottom of this embarrassment!”*

*“Yes Sir, right away Sir!”*

“Ahh…thooght Ahh was dead…Ahh thooght I was in purgatory!” Spinny said as he stumbled along through the sand.
“You are not dead my friend…” Asif reassured, “You are alive and God has smiled upon you!”

Spinny silently nodded as he held the strong hand of Asif and followed blindly in faith, not quite knowing what to make of all that had transpired.

Five days of fair winds brought the small fishing dhow to within two hundred and fifty miles of the Sassenach Naval island of Diego Garcia.  Skipper Asif had charted his course carefully. Having no knowledge of the toppling of the tyrant ‘King’ Husam in Seychelles, he plotted his course east, away from the kingdom in hopes of finding medical aid in the Chagos Archipelago chain.

Asif sat down in the small sheltered part of the dhow with sailor Spinny, while Abdul held the rudder in the stern on a steady course.

“Eat…you must eat to regain your strength Spinny.” Asif said as he handed the battered sailor a piece of dried fish, topped with humus.

Spinny did eat, and it was a gift from heaven to his shrunken stomach…

“Ah..it's guid! Ahh swaur if Ahh hud tae dig fur anither raw clam froms 'att islain Ahh woods hav worn me fingers tae a nub!” He joked as his spirits rose.

*"Ha-ha!”* Asif laughed and smiled as he watched the sailor devour the food.

“Tells me mucker, whit hav ye heard of mah braw Keptin Joshua Slane an' th' Silverton?"
“Less than you I’m afraid my friend. I left Aden shortly after he conquered the Jinn.  Where he is now I have no idea.”
“Hmm…aye. Ahh remembers a stoatin brine battle efter leavin' Aden…” Spinny thought out-loud, *“Och Gawd! It’s aw' comin' back tae me!”*
*“What is it? What’s wrong?!”* Asif asked as he saw the worry spread over Spinny’s face.

Asif’s eyes opened wide as he heard the startling news…

“By whom?”
*“’Att dobber Husam! He took a stoaner tack straight at us, runnin' under uir guns! ‘Att's when he fired th' grape!"* Spinny grimaced as it all came flooding back, *“Ahh fear he may hav died!”*
*“No!* Don’t think that way…you survived…didn’t you?” Asif encouraged.

Spinny glanced up at him and nodded his head, “Ahh did…”

“So just as God has smiled upon you Spinny, so might he have smiled upon your Captain!”

Spinny’s eyes seemed to clear a bit, “Aye…mebbe he did…mebbe…he survived.  Joshua is a good man…”
“Yes, more fair than most…” Asif said quietly as he put a hand on Spinny’s shoulder, “God would smile upon him Spinny...I am certain he would!”
