**¿Que es el pop? - What is pop?**

El pop es un género musical que nació a finales de la década de los “50” con un sonido algo eléctrico y una fuerte orientación de otros géneros como el “Dance” y el “Rock”. El Pop revolucionó el mercado de la música debido a que una peculiaridad de este género es que sus canciones normalmente tienen poca duración con un formato de composición algo básico y fácil de entender. El Pop usa muchos versos y melodías repetitivas para que sean fáciles de recordar y así se enganchen más fácil en las personas.

Pop is a musical genre that was born in the late '50s with a somewhat electric sound and a strong orientation from other genres such as "Dance" and "Rock". Pop revolutionized the music market because a peculiarity of this genre is that its songs are usually short-lived with a somewhat basic and easy-to-understand composition format. Pop uses many repetitive verses and melodies to make them easy to remember and thus make them easier to hook on people.

**¿Dónde se originó el pop? - Where did pop originate?**

Se dice que el pop nació mucho antes de llegar al año 1960, algunos dicen que nació en Estados Unidos en el año 1926 siendo un concepto opuesto a los géneros de culto como el jazz o el blues. Debido a que en estos tiempos la música como el jazz era despreciada y rechazada ante la sociedad, la gente acostumbraba a tocar este tipo de música a escondidas de los altos mandos para no ser arrestados o castigados. Sin embargo, el pop como ya lo había mencionado antes, fue un género que se creó totalmente abierto y para todo público, debido a esto los músicos de la época tomaban este género como algo “fácil”. En el año 1950 el pop tomó mucha influencia del “Rock and Roll” en Estados Unidos, mientras que en el reino unido la música Pop iba tomando más influencias de la música beat llevándolo a sonidos más electrónicos. El Pop siempre fue como el antagonista del rock y como tal se fue extendiendo y globalizando sobretodo en el público joven.

Con el pasar de los años y gracias a los medios de comunicación se fueron abriendo conciertos y festividades en pro a este género musical donde las personas jóvenes acostumbraban a ir.
Como precursor de los festivales grandes de Pop se considera el Festival Internacional de música Pop de Monterey (California), celebrado del 16 al 18 de junio de 1967, seguido por el mítico festival de Woodstock (Nueva York), del 15 al 18 de agosto de 1969.
Actualmente el género Pop tiene fuertes influencias con géneros más urbanos como el rap y el “Trap” jugando mucho con la rítmica de los versos tomando un sonido y bases rítmicas más llamativas.
Un dato curioso es que la palabra “Pop” es diminutivo de “popular”, ya con su nombre sabemos que el género se creó para siempre estar en la boca de las personas, y las grandes industrias y compañías del mercado musical se han estado encargando de que sea así.

In 1950, pop took a lot of influence from “Rock and Roll” in the United States, while in the United Kingdom Pop music was taking more influences from beat music, taking it to more electronic sounds. Pop was always like the antagonist of rock and as such it spread and globalized, especially among young audiences.

Over the years and thanks to the media, concerts and festivities were opened in favor of this musical genre where young people used to go. As a precursor to major pop festivals is considered the Monterey International Pop Music Festival (California), held from June 16 to 18, 1967, followed by the legendary Woodstock festival (New York), from August 15 to 18 1969.
Currently the Pop genre has strong influences with more urban genres such as rap and "Trap" playing a lot with the rhythm of the verses taking a more striking sound and rhythmic bases.
A curious fact is that the word "Pop" is short for "popular", we already know by its name that the genre was created to always be in the mouth of people, and large industries and companies in the music market have been taking over so be it.

**Características del Pop - Pop features**

-	Se podría decir que una de las mayores características de este género es que sus temas como ya había mencionado antes no duran más de 2 a 3 minutos y medio.

-	El ritmo del Pop es un ritmo muy constante y simple.

-	Las variantes más comunes son el verso y el coro haciendo que tengan una melodía pegadiza y que su mayor auge sea en el coro de la canción.

-	Sus letras hablan normalmente del amor y las relaciones románticas aunque existen notables excepciones.

**Instrumentación - Instrumentation**

Normalmente en el pop de antaño se utilizaba un teclado, una guitarra, un bajo, una batería, coros y voz. Pero en la actualidad se utilizan más instrumentos como la guitarra eléctrica, un sintetizador, una caja de ritmos, un secuenciador, y un sampler.

**El Pop en Latinoamérica - Pop in Latin America**

El pop en latino américa llego en los años 1950 y 1960 de los países anglosajones, como había mencionado fue un género que se creó para que fuera popular sin importar el qué dirán. Pero no fue sino hasta el año 1980 que la cantante pop “Gloria Estefan”  quien por ser un pilar en la popularización de este género hasta en el mismo Estados Unidos, se llevó el nombre de “La madre del Pop Latino”. Dentro del pop latino normalmente se hacen adaptaciones de ritmos latinos con el propósito de convertirlo en un producto que se pueda escuchar con comodidad más allá de su público tradicional (los jóvenes).
El cantante Colombiano Carlos vives mezclo géneros tradicionales de su región con el pop abriendo fronteras y captando la atención del público norte americano, al igual que la agrupación del mismo país llamado “Bacilos”. A partir del año 2000 el género pop tiene influencias más dirigidas al hip-hop donde artistas como Daddy Yankee o Don Omar comienzan su carrera mezclando el Reggaeton, el rap y el hip-hop con el género “Pop” haciendo que este sonido en particular se termine denominando como “Pop Latino”. 
En la actualidad el “Pop Latino” se conoce como “Latin Pop” y como ya había mencionado antes es una mezcla de Reggaetón u otros géneros latinos como la bachata con el Pop, haciendo que este sobrepase las fronteras y sea un género muy pegadizo en los oídos de las personas. 
El “Latin Pop” no solo viene de Latinoamérica si no también puede venir de otros países que hablen idiomas como el español, el portugués, el francés y que tengan un sonido similar a este.
