Every traveler, who, leaving behind the majesty of the Picos de Europa, returns to the Castilian Plateau, going through the ups and downs of the so-called Palencia Mountain, will be following, perhaps without being aware of it, the same route, which, in medieval times, they carried out the anonymous brotherhoods of stonemasons, whose masterful work, elevated for posterity, a multitude of fascinating churches and monasteries, leaving an indelible mark of their passage and their faith. In such a way, that, following the melancholic flow of a regional road, which, in less than a hundred kilometers, connects, at the height of Herrera de Pisuerga, with the Autovía de la Meseta, the traveler will be able to enjoy, in detours to both sides of its path, one of the most fascinating and spectacular of the Romanesque Art of Palencia. It will leave behind monasteries that have come to a lesser extent, such as San Salvador de Cantamuda, San Andrés de Arroyo or Santa Eufemia de Cozuelos, or churches as fascinating and full of mystery as Santa Cecilia, in Vallespinoso de Aguilar, or the hermitage of San Pelayo, in Perazancas de Ojeda.

But before leaving these fascinating Castilian solitudes, of silent towns and hidden secrets, and joining the boring passage of the trip along the highway, at the height of its connection with the town of Herrera de Pisuerga, the traveler will be simply fascinated when, at To the right of the road that undauntedly crosses the town of Moarves de Ojeda, contemplate the solitary church of San Juan Bautista and looking at its marvelous façade, feel -although you may not know it at that precise moment- that you are not only in front of a brilliant work of art, but also, it is contemplating what is possibly the best and most spectacular cover of Spanish Romanesque art.

Todo viajero, que, dejando atrás la majestuosidad de los Picos de Europa, regresa a la Meseta castellana, recorriendo los altibajos de la denominada Montaña Palentina, estará realizando, quizás sin ser consciente de ello, esa misma ruta, que, en tiempos medievales, realizaron las anónimas cofradías de canteros, cuya magistral labor, elevó para la posteridad, una multitud de fascinantes iglesias y monasterios, dejando una indeleble señal de su paso y de su fe. De tal manera, que, siguiendo el melancólico discurrir de una carretera comarcal, que, en menos de un centenar de kilómetros, conecta, a la altura de Herrera de Pisuerga, con la Autovía de la Meseta, el viajero podrá disfrutar, en desvíos a uno y otro lado de su camino, de lo más fascinante y espectacular del Arte Románico de Palencia. Irá dejando atrás, monasterios venidos a menos, como el de San Salvador de Cantamuda, el de San Andrés de Arroyo o el de Santa Eufemia de Cozuelos o iglesias tan fascinantes y llenas de misterio, como la de Santa Cecilia, en Vallespinoso de Aguilar, o la ermita de San Pelayo, en Perazancas de Ojeda.

Pero antes de abandonar estas fascinantes soledades castellanas, de pueblos silenciosos y secretos recónditos e incorporarse al aburrido transcurrir del viaje por la Autovía, a la altura de su conexión con el pueblo de Herrera de Pisuerga, el viajero quedará, sencillamente fascinado, cuando, a la derecha de la carretera que atraviesa impávidamente el pueblo de Moarves de Ojeda, contemple la solitaria iglesia de San Juan Bautista y fijándose en su maravillosa portada, sienta -aunque quizás no lo sepa en ese preciso momento- que se encuentra, no sólo ante una brillante obra de Arte, sino, que, además, está contemplando la que posiblemente sea la mejor y más espectacular portada del Arte Románico español.
