En vísperas de otra de las terribles guerras que habrían de caracterizar al pasado siglo XX, hasta el punto de quedar merecidamente marcado por la Historia, como el siglo de la violencia, el director de cine norteamericano, Frank Capra, adaptó a las grandes pantallas una conmovedora novela, ‘Horizontes perdidos’, donde su autor, James Hilton, no sólo hacía un atrevido alegato antibelicista, siguiendo la estela de otros grandes autores, como el también escritor y poeta alemán, Erich María Remarque y su inolvidable ‘Sin novedad en el frente’, sino que además, volvía a introducir en Occidente un antiguo mito asiático, el de Shamballa, al que en su novela llamó Shangri-Lá: el Valle de la Luna Azul.
