The stone, the first textbook of the people

Centuries and even millennia before Gütemberg invented the printing press, the sculpted stone was the textbook where the hopelessly illiterate people learned the only thing they were allowed to know: Sacred History.

From the texts of the pyramids, which included instructions for the soul of the deceased to continue a placid existence in the Hereafter, to the not always sophisticated sculptures of the Romanesque churches, they were places of eschatological worship, which could well be considered, in in a certain way, like the antecedents of the first schools, since the teachings, although basic, reached reason using the power of vision.

Even though this is a merely literalist vision in many of the cases, the medieval stonemasons were the executors of a neo-testamentary program, which made uneducated people access the most relevant episodes of the life of Christ, a figure on which it revolved the spiritual universe of the West.

In such a way, that it is common to practically all Western churches, hermitages and cathedrals, the execution of scenes, where the most relevant episodes of the life, death and ascension of a figure were revealed, an authentic source of attraction of masses, of which after twenty-one centuries there is still speculation, but of which there is no doubt that it constitutes an unprecedented spiritual milestone.
